Kinetic sand, crazy sand etc...

Are they any good? Is there any different between the different makes?

Ds2 has autism and is OK with play doh and has just discovered sand! So I'm wondering if this would be OK for him? I'm not after spending a fortune just in case it's not his thing.

Bumping for you as we don't have these. They do tend to feature in "Christmas presents to avoid" threads though, because they can be hellishly messy to clean up.

My son's fishing for those blow pen things. They won't be messy at all, oh no.

I did look at those blo pens, and quickly skipped past then lol.

my dc have nagic sand, i prefer it to playdoh because if any does get on the floor it gets hoovered up rather than getting squished in

It's not great to play with & doesn't mould as easily as play doh
Though I do agree much easier to clean up

DS1 is 8 and is autistic, he got kinetic sand last Xmas and still plays with it every day. He's only allowed to use it at the dining table, same with play doh etc. but he seems to find the sand very therapeutic, and it definitely calms him down when he's stressed or worried about something.

7 yr old dd loves playing with kinetic sand - much favoured over playdoh in this house. Expensive but been played with almost daily for 6 months!!

Well I thought with it being sand, I'd just hoover it up but he would only be allowed to play with it at the table so not too bad in the way of clearing up. Maybe just a small kit to try it?

I had blow pens as a kid. Taking 20 years ago but if they are the same as they used to be, they were pretty nifty and not that messy. As long as it was aimed at paper anyway

Be careful if you have wooden floors or Lino - Kinect/moon sand makes it extremely slippery!

Kinetic sand isn't real sand though and it stinks to high heaven- I dread the chemicals that are in it!! What about fimo? Bit more grown up than play doh?

My dd had this. It did make a bit of a mess but I just hoovered it up whenever some fell on the floor. After a month or so she had none left

We have kinetic sand, not tried the other ones yet. But it's a favourite in this house, we bought the one that comes with a kinda silicone tray so we don't get too much of a mess anywhere else. We are defo buying more for Xmas as I don't find in the original starter pack you get that much.

Is kinetic sand any good for a 9 year old?

We have kinetic sand and the dc play with it loads, it doesn't replace play doh imo but is easier to clean up.

We have ours in a bit under bed plastic storage tub with a plastic shower curtain in it. They lay the shower curtain down and put the tub on top. Any that gets spilt on the curtain I just tip back into the tub and then it gets slid back under the bed when finished.

Bless you haggis fish, thank you for your offer but my friend has offered to have ds2 round for an hour to play with her sons crazy sand so we'll soon see! I'm liking fimo though.

DD loves our kinetic sand.

Just a word of warning though, be very careful with it around pets and small children. If a dog eats it, it can't pass it out as the sand just keeps reshaping and remoulding itself in the dogs insides and causes a blockage, needing emergency surgery to remove it!
