I was wondering, how many of you do the elf on the shelf tradition. My children love it we have one elf who comes every year. They get so excited what other traditions dose everyone do..

Bloody love elf on the shelf - weve done it for 3 years I think and our dd's are 9 and 6. Ours always comes on the night that the rotary club christmas sleigh comes around the roads - the elf obviously jumps off the sleigh so we position her dangling out the letterbox while the girls are meeting father Christmas. I think our eldest dd is well onto us but she get caught up in the excitement still and having a little sister helps her to still find it magical. We normally have a semi drunken giggle when we're putting the elf into position the night before. Sure enough, the favourite ones have always been where we have made it look like she has trashed the place - the messier it is, the more likely mine are to believe that she must be real because mum would never spray shaving foam everywhere/spill popcorn over the settee/draw moustaches over the pictures etc. She also brings them pyjamas each on Christmas eve. I reckon we will do this until they leave home to be honest and just change what the elf does to be age appropriate as they grow up. I don't get how people find it stressful although I do see how they do look slightly demonic. Grin

We did it for the first time last year and I think me and DH enjoyed it the most :)
Managed to get eots decoration for the tree too on holiday in the states this year.
I noticed in the works eBay site they had a eots birthday book for £8 free delivery if anyone wants to ramp it up.

We did it for the first time last year. 11 month old DS didn't have a clue but almost 4 year old DD utterly loved it. She will be so excited this year when he's back. Ours arrived on December 1st with a 'North Pole Picnic' (Santa pancakes and fruit on Christmas paper plates) for breakfast and left on December 24th leaving their Christmas Eve boxes (PJs, hot chocolate and a Christmassy story) behind. I really enjoyed doing it.

I love doing elf on the shelf.

Here's two of mine from last year.

we dont do elf on the shelf, although i might start it this year as it does look like fun

Bibs2014 · 02/09/2016 15:41

I think my 2 year old DS would love this! What do I have to do?

TelephoneTree · 06/09/2016 07:21

We just move ours around when they're in bed! I've never set the elf up in mischievous poses because I can't be arsed to clear it all up. The kids love it.

TelephoneTree · 06/09/2016 07:24

Bibs - we just put ours in a different place each night - on a shelf, in a jug etc and the first thing kids do when they wake is try and find where it is. Other people set up scenes - search 'elf fun' on Pinterest and see what comes up - it will explain it better!

InYourHonour · 08/09/2016 15:52

We do elf on the shelf. We don't have the book as we don't follow the no touch rule.
I've got an Elf related facebook page if anyone wants a look facebook.com/elfsleepingbags/
Its got some ideas and photos from last year on there.
I've started a new pintrest board for this years Elf antics as my sons reading is much better this year so can include written things without me having to read it/explain it
