Multicoloured penguin crises

DS2 (4 next week) has just informed me that he has told Santa that he wants a multicoloured penguin for Christmas. Nervously, I said that Santa might not be able to source a 'multicoloured' one, maybe he would be able to find a normal penguin. 'No', he replied confidently, 'he has one in his sack for me already'.
So now I have a multicoloured penguin crises. DS2 is very into the word multicoloured. The penguin thing is not because of Happy Feet by the way, he just loves penguins. For his birthday (two days before Christmas) we are taking him to see Happy Feet.
So where can I get a multicoloured penguin? Bearing in mind that it is probably too late for postal orders and we live near Aberdeen, so not a large selection of shops. Any ideas please?

Could you get a normal penguin & buy a multicoloured hat & scarf for it?

mrsflowerpot · 15/12/2006 14:45

does it need to be cuddly? if not this one from Boots is a bath toy and is quite cute.

my ds v into penguins too.

tissy · 15/12/2006 14:45

not a cuddly penguin, but...has a multicoloured scarf

ComeOyefaithfulVeneer · 15/12/2006 14:46

any good?

JessaJingleBells · 15/12/2006 14:46

Find a wooden penguin and paint it?

OR is there a super knitter about? use different coloured wool...?

deaconblue · 15/12/2006 14:49

What if he thinks he's getting a "REAL" penguin though???

yorkshireWenceslass · 15/12/2006 14:51

Wow - have you seen this website?

Libra · 15/12/2006 14:51

Could you repost the knitting thing please? I can knit so it's a possibility but I can't access the page. I think the penguin has to be cuddleable so the clothes peg nice but probably not acceptable. The bath toy a possibility (I have accepted that we are going to have to abandon taste this late in the day) and we do have a Woolworths, but am interested in the knitting concept. Thanks!

He can't possibly think he's getting a REAL penguin, can he? Panic overwhelms me at the thought.

ooh, yorkshirelasses website has a"PlushTacky the penguin" that could deffo be said to have several colours!

Libra · 15/12/2006 14:57

No, tacky the penguin is.... tacky. Also an American site, so it would never get here in time. Some nice penguins though...

here

Libra, your ds sounds like mine. Mine has been obsessed with penguins for about 4 years now, although I don't buy him any more these days. I felt 25 plus were enough for any boy! He also has a birthday just before Christmas though on thr 21st.

Sorry, no idea for your multi coloured penguin problem. I have got ds a penguin mug from The Natural World to satisfy his penguin love this year. Oh and the film, The March of the Penguins.

Libra · 15/12/2006 15:01

Yay! I can knit that (I think). Will go and buy some multicoloured wool.
It's an American pattern though. Does anyone think that worsted-weight yarn means double-knitting or is it something different?

Dumbledoresfairy - it's a nightmare having birthday's so close to Christmas isn't it? DS2 is the 22nd.

OP posts:
yorkshireWenceslass · 15/12/2006 15:03

this one would have been good but out of stock - can't see who the manufacturer is

yorkshireWenceslass · 15/12/2006 15:03

Oooh, just seen you're going to knit one, good luck!

DumbledoresFairy · 15/12/2006 15:04

Yes nightmare goes some way to describe it!

My ds is nine next week by the way, so it might inspire you to get knitting knowing your son could still be obsessed at the ripe old age of nine!

Libra · 15/12/2006 15:06

There are worst things to be obsessed with (thinks of DS1 (12) and his obsessions with MSN and hair gel...

shonaspurtle · 15/12/2006 15:07

Libra, worsted weight is aran. Good luck!

Libra · 15/12/2006 15:08

Thanks Shona. Mmmm, multicoloured aran...

Post a pic when you're done - I'd love to see how it turns out!

deaconblue · 15/12/2006 20:50

What a fab mum you are to knit the lovely penguin! Wish my ds had such a nice mummy
