Bloody Amazon!

I thought I was so sorted, having done most of my shopping online. I placed my last Amazon order on the 11th, checking carefully to only include items that they said would arrive before Christmas. I checked the status of my order this morning and only one thing has been dispatched, everything else has been changed to "won't arrive until after the 25th". I looked for contact details ready to phone them up and complain about breach of contract, "time being of the essence" blah, blah (I am hot on consumer law) - can you speak to a real person, can you hell!!!! I've cancelled the whole order and now have to try and find the same stuff in town - AGHHHHHHHH! I've always championed Amazon in the past as being really reliable, not this year Xmas Angry

I wonder why you can't do a festive angry emotion - must be seen as mutually incompatible

Oh NO!

I really feel for you. We have also trusted our Christmas gifts to Amazon for a second year in a row and I am waiting to hear from DHL because Amazon claim that they have the items and that they were slated for delivery on the 11th but DHL have no record. We are living in Austria this year but used Amazon UK because we wanted english books etc.

What will you do?

Cadeauxmum · 14/12/2006 12:40

Sorry! I see that you have cancelled the order and are about to hit the high streets.

Not really an option for us atm. ARGH! The gifts from grandparerents were included in this lot and it cost a fortune!

snowydelight · 14/12/2006 12:41

I've found two of the books I wanted for DH elsewhere online and they SAY they'll deliver for Christmas, the others are too obscure. I can get some of the stuff (DVDs, games etc.) in Woolies in town, but it will be more expensive. I know in the grand scheme of things it's really not that big a deal, but I'm having a bad week so I'm pissed off. Track your stuff carefully cadeauxmum - hope it arrives for you!

Sorry you had to cancel, my amazon order has items that "wont be delivered until after 25 Dec" like you - but they arrived this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pindy · 14/12/2006 12:44

If that is the case - have i missed christmas??

snowydelight · 14/12/2006 12:49

Glad you got your stuff pindy, I did wonder whether to hold my nerve in the hope that the stuff might turn up, but if it hadn't I would have been truly stuffed.

Me too, am so pissed off as I'd planned to have the order delivered to the grandparents where we are staying at Christmas. Have to schlep round town looking for obscure books now and carry them down on the train along with all our other stuff. THought I may have just been being tardy with my order, but I was sure that I'd done the order at about the same time in previous years. Infuriating isn't it

swedishmum · 14/12/2006 13:01

What a pain! Amazon delivered really quickly for me this year (but nothing was obscure). John Lewis and Debenhams are all I'm waiting for now - sadly both are presents for dd2 and everyone else's stuff has arrived!

gscrym · 14/12/2006 13:06

I did the same. Bought pink IPod speakers for BIL's step daughter, books and DVD's for my brother and his girlfriend from their wishlist. All were supposed to be in stock except the speakers. They were supposed to be dispatched on the 12th. Got an email to say the speakers hadn't come in and they wouldn't be delivered till the 4th of January. Got the same e-mail about my brothers books. I changed the delivery from free to express and voila, the speakers are now being dispatched on the 19th and the books will be there by the 22nd. I'm pissed off that I had to pay more but at least they'll get what they want. The speakers were at least £15 cheaper on Amazon than other places. I'll order earlier the next time and will be exceptionally peeved if this happens again.

WHEELYbahhumBUG · 14/12/2006 13:08

I have found waterstones and hmv to be much better than amazon this year. HMV is free delivery and Waterstones is for orders over £15.

Amazon seem to be having a few problems this year for some reason.

LIZS · 14/12/2006 13:12

Cadeauxmum , I sometimes used Amazon.de as you can get free delivery and they stock popular English titles.

LIZS · 14/12/2006 13:15

Wheely , Waterstones were useless last week, cancelled my order as they actually didn't have stock of titles which were supposed to be on a 24 hour despatch and another was out of print. Currently waiting for an Amazon parcel, part of my order from last weeekend arrived yesterday .

DumbledoresFairy · 14/12/2006 13:15

Amazon have let me down too - not for the first time. I ordered over £80 worth of stuff from them, all of it was supposed to be here in time for Christmas, and then, just when it was too late to do anythig else about it, they told me one item probably wouldn't be here in time. It is for ds1 and I can't find it anywhere else. I know they still have 10 days, but I am not hopeful.

In the summer, they took weeks to deliver 2 very ordinary novels - nothing unusual - to my brother for his birthday.

foxinsocks · 14/12/2006 13:17

amazon were fine as long as everything was 1st class delivery

their super saver delivery often doesn't come in time - I made that mistake one year!

snowydelight · 14/12/2006 15:51

Lots of us in the same boat then! There was a "name and shame" thread last year after Christmas for people to say who had et them down - I might start one myself this year!

xmasmummy · 14/12/2006 15:58

i ordered from them this afternoon, a teletubby aquadraw for dd1, already had an email saying its been dispatched and will be with me by saturday

smittenkitten · 14/12/2006 20:18

i ordered my xmas gifts at the beginning of Nov and they only arrived this week! I kept tracking my order and it was always due to be dispatched within next few days. grr. it was almost impossible to email them as well - nothing as simple as an address, no a pro forma where you had to select which order you were referring to from a drop down list and mine wasn't there so i couldn't send an email telling them how cross i was!!!!! Grrrrrrrr!!

PeachyIsNowAChristmasFruit · 14/12/2006 20:21

We had this last year, they wouldn't cancel as special order- arrived in a different colour (was a nintendo DS) and they wouldn't supply that unless we gave them the £100 (or thereabouts) and applied for refund on first paid order . Come february, still no DS- in the end gave up, cancelled and bought elsewhere. Real downer for christmas though. Apaprently caused by accounts cashing my chque but not recordinga s received; took ages to convinve them I had paid.

paulaplumpbottom · 14/12/2006 20:25

I still haven't recieved an order that i placed in late October!!!!!

moonshine · 14/12/2006 20:27

I've always been lucky with my orders but did have call to contact them about something recently. At the bottom of all pages is a contact us link - click on that, then look on the right hand side and there is a 'call me' button. I clicked on that and my phone rang instantly and spoke to a Real Amazon Person - very exciting.

DumbledoresFairy · 14/12/2006 20:45

Oh Amazon must read Mumsnet! I have just had an email from them saying my last item has been dispatched!

Mind you, another company told me the same thing last Friday and I am still waiting for the goods to arrive. I have just emailed them.

Cadeauxmum · 15/12/2006 20:06

Thanks LIZS! I did hear that Amazon.de might be a better option but they didn't have all of the things that I wanted this year. (English version of board games etc etc...)
