Help Needed - Angel Costume by Monday!!

So,tucking dd2 into bed last night she gleefully informs me she needs an angel costume for Monday.

Looked on Amazon last night - dd2 is 10 but tall so children's costumes are too small - Adults are either naughty or can't guarantee delivery tomorrow.

I was thinking to buy a white t-shirt and tights and some netting to make a long tutu type skirt but what about halo?

Wings? I'm hoping there are some in her dressing up box.

Use an alice band, wire and tinsel to make the halo. Cardboard wings attached with elastic or even just string.

Just check that the school doesn't have something for her though. They tend to have a load of angel, shepherd and king costumes in storage.

I made one for DS - a white single flat sheet, in half with a hole for the head. I made some arms by just cutting and wonderwebbing. I bought halo and wings and then put some tinsel round his waist for a belt.

Bit of tinsel round the head for a halo. Or some silver or gold card from an art shop. Some old net curtain if you have some, or get some from a charity shop, to make a robe or skirt.

A communion dress is another option as its usually a white puffy dress.

Halo is usually a headband with stiff florist wire wrapped in tinsel as a loop above. Sometimes grips to help hold it on.

My local Sainsburys has still got angel headband in stock - they're just a halo attached to a head band and aren't expensive.

For wings, our school has big bits of sparkly net, that attach to the back of a White tshirt and have loops of the ends that go round the girls fingers. As they flap their arms, the wings float around. There is apparently a lot of girls that need the toilet when wearing the angel costumes as they like to waft all the way down the very long corridor to the loo.

For a halo I would get a piece of tinsel and tie/attach it round dds head, I reckon that's how Angels halos used to be done when I was little.

Aldi had nativity costumes, including an angel, as one of their specialbuys a couple of weeks back. Bargain at £3.99. DD proudly wore one for her school play yesterday!

I made a princess Leia dress for my DD in about 30 mins from an old sheet - would work equally well for angel.

Fold sheet in half and cut outline - big bell sleeves and a line skirt. Cut hole for head. Use wonder webbing or sewing machine to go around the seams and hem. Then add a silver or gold belt and tah dah!

White pillowcase, make holes in either side for arms and neck hole in one end. Tinsel hairband. Wings a bit more tricky but you could probably get away without.

Oh, and I'd have a word with Her teacher about passing this kind of thing in sooner.

It may be that the DD has only just thought to mention it. Whenever I or my sister would announce that we needed X for tomorrow, or even this afternoon, as we used to go home for lunch, my mum's first question was always 'how long have you known about this?'

Or, as a teacher on another thread said, sometimes they only give a small amount of notice because they don't want parents spending lots of time and money on whatever it is, and just using whatever they have to hand.

Indeed. Which is why the message shouldn't be passed on via the child. In DD's class a slip gets put in the book bag with this kind of stuff in it, or handed directly to the adult picking up.

She's ten. She might not even be picked up by an adult. If no SN she should be capable of remembering and passing on a simple message. Presumably she'll be at secondary school next year and will have a lot more than this to remember and organise for herself.

Oh, I missed thst she was 10. My bad, yes, she should be able to do that by herself. My pillowcase suggestion is obviously bollocks as well . In my defence I thought that nativities were more at the infants end of primary.

I would go for a white sheet if you have one and staple silver tinsel around the hem and edge of sleeves.

My 8 year old is wearing a pair of white jeans (begrudingly lent by older sister), white tshirt (boys section in Primark). We got wings in Sainsburys at the beginning of the week. She doesn't want to wear a halo. In previous years a pair of white tights and a mens white shirt worn backwards with tinsel around the middle has done. My 10 year old doesn't get notes re costumes sent home - they relay the info or not themselves.

She only found out on Thursday what they needed, although if she had told me after school I could have spent some time getting organised........Anyway they have changed their minds and now need to wear all black, she is in the choir.
