we are having a mulled wine/drinks party on saturday. I realy fancy serving sausage rolls. Does anyone know a (relatively simple) recipie or can recommend some which are not too bad from a reclaimed meat/transfatty acids point of view thanks

I think the easiest way would be to buy nice free-range / organic / local etc sausages and make your own pastry to wrap them in...

roll puff pastry into long thin line, add line a sausage meat. Paint one edge of pastry with egg wash. Roll over. Cut at angle, place on sheet and brush top with egg wash. Bake in mod/hot oven for about 15-20mins

For the pastry use crescent rolls dough. Just don't separate it. Instead kind of mash together the perforated areas.

Making pastry anyway (for mince pies) do you think short crust will be ok or need to be puff ?

Go to your local butchers. A good one makes them there

These are my speciality all year round. I use the Delia recipe which you can find on her website but basically it involves pre rolled puff pastry, nice sausage meat which I normally just cut open sausages to get but at this time of year M&S do it, some onion, some sage or similar chopped fresh herbs all mixed together and used to fill the pastry. So easy and always a huge hit plus you can make them in advance, freeze them (with lots of tinfoil/greaseproof paper) and cook from frozen. Always well received. I usually also do Delia's vegetarian sausage rolls as well as DH is veggie. Recipe for them is also on the website.

naughty mummy - have had sausage rolls made with shortcrust and they are okay but IMO a bit greasy - puff is so much better and bought is as good as homemade.
