Am most confused!

Went to the local butchers and said I needed a piece of beef for Christmas for 7 adults. He said I would need a 6kg piece which would cost approx £70. I thought that was rather large and so asked another butcher and he said 4kg. However looking at sizing on line it says 1.8kg.

As you can see huge size range!!

I never do a roast so am very confused!! Please help

Wow! I'd have said about 3kg, from experience that feeds 6 - 8 easily, with enough for a few sandwiches the next day.

I would buy topside and spend about £30 in my butchers for seven adults.

Our rib roast isn't much more expensive.

But I don't live anywhere expensive and could possibly name the cow Smile

In theory a 250g portion per head would be right, but in practice the beef will shrink and it’s Christmas and it will be delicious and you’ll want leftovers so I’d definitely be going for 3-4kg. It does depend if you are getting bone-in rib or a boneless joint.

What I am planning is to cook it Christmas day for DH and I. The next day I have us plus 5 more adults so I was going to slice it for a buffet. I am also doing a BBQ pulled pork the next day plus stuff like crisps, cheese etc.
