Where do you put your tree?

It's our first Christmas in this house, and I've realised I don't know where we are going to put the Christmas tree .

I can't put it in front of the living room window, because there's a radiator there.

I could move DH's armchair and put it next to the fireplace, or I could put it in front of the door, and then we'd have to go round and through the dining room to get into the room.

Or I could move the sofa around and then put it next to it, where the sofa is now. It would then be tricky to see the television.

Or I could put it in the archway through to the dining room.

Or I could not have it in the living room at all and put it in the corner of the dining room, but that seems a shame, as I'd rather we all sat round in the living room and it was a focal point.

Does anyone else have to completely rearrange their furniture ?

We have a bay window with a radiator in our living room but the tree is far enough away from it to not be a problem

In the living room next to the fireplace. It looks so pretty and festive, especially when the fire is lit.

Ours is next to the fireplace (after having to I've some furniture to find some plugs!!! Lol)
It is currently hidden behind the fireguard as DS2 can't keep his hands off it! It's only been up 2 days & I already can't wait to bring it down (Hasn't even glanced at the fire since guard has been moved, he's determined to destroy the bloody tree)

Move furniture***

We have one in the corner of the conservatory and one by the fireplace in the lounge , In front of the fire we have 2 fibre optic polar bears and a penguin , looks very festive .

ours goes in the alcove next to the fireplace in the front room (the room only has one door) - we just have to move the chair that normally goes there.

It's in front of bookcases but that's ok for a couple of weeks.

Hawest, we use a trailing socket to plug lights etc in - it saves a lot of grovelling behind furniture

OP, it could go in the window if you turn the radiator off (or is that the only heat in the room?)

Yes, that is the only radiator - fireplace is just decorative, so the room would be freezing.

I think I am going to move the armchair out and put it next to the fireplace, but DH will be unenthusiastic as he always sits there.

Similar problem. I have one, totally square small room downstairs (apart from the tiny kitchen). It has a door to the garden and one to the hall directly opposite.
Tis impossible to put presents round the tree without a door bashing into them. Unless I move the large dining table or a 3 seater sofa ( but goodness knows where to as they would block said doors).
Think I will have to put the tree on low table or something and get the presents off the floor that way.

I can't believe you bought a house without having a 'that's where the Christmas tree will go'. That's one of the boxes to tick when house hunting, no?

Ours goes in the large bay window but we have to move a sofa out of the window and do a bit of a furniture re-shuffle to get it there. Should be fun this year as I'm rather too pregnant to shift furniture or bend to help secure the tree base straight so I get to watch DH & 7yo DS attempt to do it this year.

I put my tree up Thursday night

It started in front of the window
Friday it was in the far left corner of the room
Yesterday it was at the back in front of the patio doors then moved next to the fire place.

It's a tough decision to make

Ours is a bit squished...we have a built in shelf about chest height along one wall, and the (fake) tree sort of gets pushed into that iyswim? So sort of like a 3/4 round tree with the back quite tight against the wall.

Ours goes in the corner at the bottom of the stairs (stairs go up the side of our main living area). There is a chair that normally lives there which I move into the kitchen.

We too have a dilemma, when we designed the room (refurb project) we purposefully put the radiator where it wouldn't be in the way and blocked by furniture - but we didn't think about Christmas tree - the best place for it would be where radiator is... Doh.

Ha ha, Lizzie it is only a rented house. I will make sure to add the Christmas Tree location check box to my list of important features when we eventually come to buy a house though .

DH reckons we should put it in the dining room, as there is plenty of room there. I think not having it in the living room is just wrong. We have two weeks to come to an agreement. Or I can put it up with the DC while he is at work

One goes infront of the window in the living room, another in the corner in the dining room, sometimes another in the hall…
I love my Christmas trees, and any furniture that would be in the way gets stored in the spare room, trees are the priority in this house!

I'm suffering this dilemma too this year - usually it would be in the centre of the wall between two chairs but this year I've bought a sideboard which is doing a sterling job of holding all the kids' crap but means I have no idea where my tree is going to go! DH is proving very resistant to the idea that we should get rid of his absolutely hideous and enormous armchair to make room as well.

To avoid moving around lots of furniture including bookcases we put our tree in the kitchen. We have to move a small keyboard into the hall but it works quite well. We leave the double doors open and we can see the lights when we're in the living room
