SatNav gift

So my older brother is a complete technophobe - never used internet/mobile phone etc. My mum suggested a satnav for his car as a gift this year. I am quite confused by descriptions on ebay/Amazon etc. How easy are they to set up and use? Any recommendations? Will he be able to cope with it? Plan B is a good old fashioned AA road map!

I think the time of the standalone satnav is over, really.

Any cheap smartphone with (free) Google Maps can do what most satnavs do and do a lot of other stuff too.

Does your brother do a lot of driving to places he's unfamiliar with? If he's as anti-technology as he seems then unless he can see a real benefit from it then he won't put the effort in to learn to use it.

Thanks Trills. I think you're probably right. He does go off for day trips/on holiday but not that much. He's a bugger to buy for though!
