Quality gift wrap?

I tend to use gift bags these days but still need to wrap some presents. Can anyone recommend some good quality gift wrap? You can't tell when it is rolled up and I have bought some shocking stuff in the past...I don't have Papaerchase or similar here, just the normal supermarkets/Boots/Wh Smiths etc.
Any suggestions?

Waterstones had nice quality normal paper last time I was there. Not sure about Christmas stuff.

I bought really beautiful wrapping paper in tesco. It is white with gold embellished reindeer - really doesn't look cheap. Lovely.

honestly? i've been using up a huge roll of brown parcel paper for the last four years and it will do another year after this one. i just make it look pretty after things are wrapped using red and white ribbons and candy canes. everyone loves it and it's worked out so cheaply and much better quality compared to buying christmas specific paper

Aldi paper is really good quality for the price. The stuff I have bought is thick brown paper on the back, but colourful with shiny metallic designs on the front, and it was really cheap.
It sells out quickly though.

I tend to buy online - have bought some Kraft paper sheets this year on Amazon.

Ikea has always been brilliant but the stuff I got this year is rather thin :/ so the few that I have wrapped in that so far have had it wrapped round twice :/ unless you used tissue paper underneath too but I'm too lazy for that.

I know it's probably all just going to go in the bin but you want it to not rip at the slightest movement or be see through don't you. Sigh.

I second the aldi paper,it has grid lines on the other side which makes it easier to cut in a straight line,paper is quite thick and nice patterns.

I use brown paper too, for christmas and birthday, and decorate with ribbons/silver pens/let DC stamp or draw or paint over it. Looks lovely and much more environmentally friendly!

Wife uses wrapping paper from John Lewis- it's the thickest I've ever seen, lovely quality with gridlines on the back, never tears.

I was really surprised at how good quality Tesco's paper was this year. I have some M&S wrap too and the Tesco paper is thicker and smoother to cut. I bought some silver with white snowflakes and brown Kraft style with red reindeer on it. Have used ribbon, bows and tags that I bought in the sale from M&S last year so can't say what Tesco's are like.

John Lewis have some nice looking paper this year but haven't used it.

My christmas paper this year is mainly from Tiger - their christmassy paper is a bit thin, but they also often have some great kraft-style coloured paper in the ordinary wrapping paper, bright colours with contrasting colours on each side. Am currently using a bright red roll with turquoise blue on the back. I'm also using up some red decorated paper from John Lewis I bought in the sale a couple of years ago - it was a 10m roll so and this is the third Christmas I've been using it! Normally find JL paper decent quality, very cheap in the sales after Christmas too. My mum and dad use M&S paper which is excellent quality and has the lines on the back.

JL lovely but too expensive for me.
I bought online from little crafty bugs - obviously they do craft bits too which I needed anyway so got free delivery.

I like the sound of paper that's a contrasting colour on the reverse. More places should do that.

I have some lovely gold chevron wrapping paper from asda this year. It's a nice thickness and has a cutting grid on the reverse.

MrsM I made the same mistake purchase and my carpet is hating me for it. Glitter is everywhere!!!

Quite impressed with the thickness and designs of WH Smith this year. From experience, I avoid anything with glitter, as doesn't stick with sellotape and you have to use though glue dots, which are expensive!

Thanks for the tips on Aldi paper. A new Aldi has just opened on my route home from work and I got 2 lovely rolls ...and I may have snuck in a carousel biscuit tin!!
