I'm a knob

What the hell do I want for Christmas off my mum? She told me not to ask for money or vouchers because I always end up buying her something with them rather than myself.

What are you getting? (Robbing ideas)

I'm 25 and not a girly girl but not a Tom boy either.

I'm a pain in the Arse.

I tend to ask for boots or a coat. Any good for you?

PrimalLass · 02/12/2015 09:55

My mum is getting me a Nutri Ninja.

Wtfmummy · 02/12/2015 09:58

Perfume for me and a spa treatment from hubby. I think my dad is getting me some running gear I need.

Any hobbies you have that you need equipment for? Or maybe tickets to see a show of a short evening course?

Pootles2010 · 02/12/2015 09:59

Here is my list; nice socks, dark chocolate pretzels, new sewing machine, liz earle stuff that I can't justify buying normally, new running stuff. I live life on the wild side, me Grin

LexLoofah · 02/12/2015 10:00

what is the budget range?

I like practical-ish stuff plus a bit of luxe so my dear santa list includes a make up caddy, sheepskin slippers, a book from my wishlist and some Nuxe dry body oil

perhaps you would like a bag or a watch? do you need anything for your home? need more clues really

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 02/12/2015 10:03

Not much help on the gift idea but i really hate it that people (mothers) make you feel bad for not really wanting much? I'm totally projecting here because my mum does it to me. Somehow gift giving occasions become horrible points of tension. You are not a knob.

ButtonMoon88 · 02/12/2015 10:05

I'm 27 and a new mom so my mom is getting me some spa treatments and providing a babysitting service hahaha

I have also asked for (but may not get); illustrated Harry Potter books
Perfume
A le creuset item

How about vouchers? Where do you like to shop? What about if you arrange a day out somewhere? I like doing things as opposed to getting the usual smellies, pjs, so on...

FauxFox · 02/12/2015 10:09

I asked my mum for a new slow cooker cos mine has a big dent in it...have a walk around your house and see if anything is getting old/broken/ugly that you would like replaced. Doesn't have to be a 'traditional' gift - if you need new towels/iron/kettle/hairdryer whatever just ask for that!

oldestmumaintheworld · 02/12/2015 10:09

My daughter is 23 and getting:

A learn to knit lesson, a learn to knit book and wool/needles
Beautiful Falke socks from John Lewis
A pair of Wolford tights for work
New roller skates for Roller Derby
A cashmere scarf
Money towards a winter coat
A pair of gloves

Musidora · 02/12/2015 10:13

Things I have asked for from parents/relatives over the years:

Kitchen stuff
(specific) Books
Jewellery
Boots
Pyjamas
Tickets for an event

Utterlyclueless · 02/12/2015 10:15

I was tempted to ask for uni books because they're so friggin expensive and a new stethoscope but I fear she will say oh I'll get you them anyway it's towards your degree!

I was looking at skin care products but I don't know what, I did get Liz Earle last year and my skin didn't thank me for it!

I'd much prefer her to keep the money for herself to be honest but she won't

Why don't the two of you do something together? Go to the cinema and for dinner somewhere? That seems like a good compromise to me!

atticusclaw2 · 02/12/2015 10:20

My DP have bought me a cashmere dressing gown. I would find it too extravagant to buy for myself but have been eying it up for a long time.

MrsMoggy · 02/12/2015 10:52

My list was:

Hair straighteners (just 30 quid ones), notepads, diary, baileys, a watch out of Avon, boots vouchers, cake tins and a soap and glory set.

I'm 26

Utterlyclueless · 02/12/2015 10:58

Ooh I do need a diary actually!

Charity gift? Sponsor a child, or buy a goat, or medical supplies through oxfam. Your mum sees you open something on Xmas day, you don't accumulate any stuff you don't want, and the money is put to good use. It's a win win.

CremeBrulee · 02/12/2015 12:49

Nice notebooks or pens? DH just bought me some lovely Moleskine ones for my birthday that I would never have splashed out on myself.

SquadGoals · 02/12/2015 13:23

I'm 26 and to just buy things as I see them, put them away for her to wrap and she then gives me the money.

So far I've picked up hair products, Next loungewear, Kindle vouchers, some new gym clothes, nice bath oil and she's paid for my hair to be done.

DH is getting me some UGGs to wear as slippers and some earrings.

NathalieM · 02/12/2015 15:01

Something edible or drinkable is always a good way to go? That's what I get someone when I can't think of something (which is usually pretty rare!)

imwithspud · 02/12/2015 16:25

I have no idea what I'm getting off my mum but I'm getting a new dressing gown off mil.

Allbymyselfagain · 02/12/2015 17:28

How about a nice bag for your uni stuff? Or a very smart refillable notebook/diary, or a posh (Parker?) style pen for your studies.

Utterlyclueless · 03/12/2015 08:35

Thanks everyone!

Finally wrote a few things down last night Xmas Smile
