TV boxes - help?!

I am a total and utter technophobe.

We don't have sky - we use Netflix though the tablet with the HDMi cable.

Can I get a TV box for catch up TV and the like? We have a fairly basic TV - can't pause or rewind or anything: can't store anything on it.

Have a look at humax. If there is a satellite dish on your house you can plug it in to this, watch more than enough channels and record etc. It is a freesat box, so no subscription to be paid - just buy the box and plug it in.
There is something similar for cable/aerial but I don't know about them. Look up freeview.

We found NOW tv to be a good option for luddites! You can watch catch up through it and also access Sky channels on a monthly basis, or pay as you go (e.g. per movie). It is a small white box and you just plug it in and off you go....We paid £20 which included two free months subscription to Sky Movies.

We have a Rough stick, it plugs into your hdmi port and connects to your WiFi. Cromecast is the same and I think amazon do one too (firestick Maybe?)

I think the now TV one doesn't let you access Netflix, as it's the sky service.

Not rough! Roku...
