Where do I start? I'm thinking of getting my husband a 3d pen for christmas as a surprise. Can anyone make a recomendation please?

I have found rigid.ink (that's web address) good for the ink

oh dear I am very confused, it seems there is alot of technical stuff i need to understand and learn before i stand a chance! Can someone who has one explain what they are, what they do, and what you need please?
