Apologies if this has already been done - Christmas trees - co-ordinated or mishmash?

Ours is mishmash - lots of different bits bought over the years - but it all seems to hang together quite well.

Lots of wooden decs in red and green
A load of salt-dough decs which are just about ready to drop to bits! I made them when the dds were babies and we probably "lose" one each year!
Some which I bought in the States when I worked there
Some which dh and I bought on our honeymoon
Some decs that were given to my parents when I was born/little
Some decs bought for the dds or made by them
Each year Santa brings them a new decoration for the tree.

Tree is full now! But it is lovely getting out our old "friends" and remembering how we came by them.

I do like the look of "matching" decs on trees but I like my memories!

Ours will look like yours for exactly the same reasons.
We debated this at playgroup and I felt a little bit sorry for those kids whose mums were in the "no way would I hang a loo roll on MY tree" brigade. Each to their own though

Mishmash here!

I love getting the decs out and remebering which dc made each one. I also buy one new tree decoration each year.

I've just been at my mil house and she is throwing out all her decs so I have bought the box home and will choose a couple to keep from dh's childhood tree. Next time I go to see my dad I will get a couple to remember my childhood.

Its a personal thing, but I really dislike totally co-ordinated trees.

My tree is currently matching but for the first time this year I have a santa made of toilet roll and cotton wool, made by ds at nursery. I am so chuffed with it, and am looking forward to adding to the collection over the years. The day I have a mismatched tree where child made decs outweigh the others I will be very happy.

Ours is a mishmash and I love it...

Some lovely decorations from the Pier I bought eons ago, wooden ones, lots of ones chosen by DS1 this and last year (including a Winnie the Pooh one he had to kiss goodnight every night last year) and we are steadily building up handmade ones..
I remember being absolutely gutted when my Mom chucked out all our childhood decs and got co-ordinated (even though I was 18!).

Heathcliffscathy · 05/12/2006 10:37

mishmash.

DimpledThighs · 05/12/2006 10:38

oh - you may hate me then!

I am not a particulary 'co-ordinated' person in any sense of the word - but our tree is red and gold - dunno why just is. We all choose a new decoration ech year and of course anything maed by the children gets pride of place loo roll or not.

as my daughter is of the pink and sparkly kind (is there any other kind?) I bought a second silver tinsel tree for the other room which is so kitsch and tacky I adore it! All her made and chosen pink stuff goes on there.

Would never pass up on something one of my DC had made if it was the wrong colour though!

Pre-DDs - beautifully co-ordinated and decorated tree
Post DDs - complete mish mash of tat but the girls love it and that's all that matters to me
