Magna blocks or bristle blocks

Just after some advice really for xmas present ideas for my nearly 3yo ds.. have seen both the magna blocks (gosh really expensive) and the less expensive bristle blocks.. any reviews of either? also any other suggestions of fun toys for xmas much appreciated.

Why not Duplo?

actually should have said that he had mega bloks but didn't really use them atall, duplo are the same as those aren't they? He has used magna blocks at nursery though.
