Please can someone explain Disney infinity in very basic terms to me. My DDs got a Wii for Christmas last year and I think they would love these but really don't understand how it works. We have the wii and 2 controllers so what would I need to buy and how does it work etc. I really don't have a clue!

You need to buy a starter pack, which contains a dock that you plug into the Wii with a usb (supplied). The started packs come with characters to play with that you out on the dock and you then become that character. You can buy additional characters as well.

Is it a Wii or a Wii U as I don't think they make the newer games for the Wii.

There are three. The original one, 2.0 which was Avengers and the newest one with Star Wars characters which is 3.0.

ALemonyPea · 06/10/2015 13:23

Should add, you can play with all the characters on the newest game, but you can only play with the older ones according to what game they came out with.

Each version comes with a main game (PLAYSET) you can play but only related figures can be used (monsters inc-sully and co, avengers-iron man etc) it also has something called a toy box this is where the infinity part comes in to play.
The toy box is where you can create different buildings, vehicles, lands etc the more you play the playsets the more objects you collect to use in toy box mode. Any figure can be played with in toy box mode. So elsa can run about with buzz light year and stitch.
Figures are not backwards compatible only forwards compatible so your figures from version 2.0 can't be played with in version 1.0 but figures from version 1.0 can be played with in 2.0 and 3.0.
Version 1.0 starter pack has PLAYSET monsters inc, pirates of the Caribbean and the incredibles plus figures to match. Other playsets for 1.0 is cars, Lone Ranger and toy story.
Version 2.0 starter pack has avengers PLAYSET with 3 avengers figures. Other 2.0 playsets to add to this is Spider-Man and guardians of the Galaxy,
Version 3.0 starter pack has Star Wars PLAYSET and 3 Star Wars figures.
You can get a different Star Wars PLAYSET with it or inside out PLAYSET plus a whole load of figures.
Power discs can be bought, you will normally get a couple in each starter pack but can be bought in most places usually in surprise bags for £2/3. These give a little extra to the toy box each one is different it can be a gun, vehicle or theme (to change land or sky, we have frozen ones and it's lovely looking) the discs get placed under the figures or PLAYSET piece.
I'm not sure what versions you can get for wiiu though. Obv 3.0 is the latest version. More figures are getting released and I would think another PLAYSET for it.
Hope that's not too confusing lol my kids love it! We have the first 2 versions and will get the 3rd for this Xmas.

Oops didn't mean to write so much! Sorry Im Disney infinity geek lol

Littlemousewithcloggson · 06/10/2015 17:56

Thank you both, it's getting a bit clearer now. It's only a wii (not a wii u) so can I get anything that's ok now or am i better waiting until we get an x box? (Planned for next years birthdays)

Only the original Infinity works with the Wii. The other versions are for Wii U only. We have the original Infinity. I have 2 dds - 7 and 9 and they love it. They have Elsa and Anna and some other character but Elsa and Anna get the most use.

You can play 3 regular type games with the figures and disc that come in the starter pack but their is also the Toybox where you build your own land.

This is the part my two love. It really is up to the player to decide what to do - there is building adventures, driving, fighting aliens. It's endless.

Littlemousewithcloggson · 06/10/2015 18:21

So I can use Elsa and Anna with the original infinity? Think mine would love those

I'd say you'd need to check but we have them, the girl from Wreck It Ralph, Rapunzel and the girl from The Incredibles and they are all fine on the original Infinity.

We also have Jack Sparrow, Mike from Monsters and Mr Incredible. They came with the starter pack and have their own games.

Littlemousewithcloggson · 07/10/2015 09:27

Thanks again everyone. Any idea where I can buy a starter pack for wii as they don't seem to be that easy to find?

Iv only seen the original starter pack for wii on Amazon. But maybe game do it but might be preowned.
Yes Anna and elsa work for version 1.0. (Olaf only works in new version 3.0) heres a link which shows you what figures and playsets work for this version.

CEX have it online.

Disney infinity 1 was very badly received on the wii. The wii version didn't allow the game to play to its full ability and so for example the two player option doesn't work properly on the wii version.

I would strongly recommend you wait and get an xbox or PS4.

Littlemousewithcloggson · 07/10/2015 23:05

Thank you everyone for your help. Am tempted the basics and see if they like it and maybe upgrade next year. Would a PS3 be ok atticus or does it have to be a ps4. We have a ps2 with lots of games in the lift somewhere and at least we could still play the games if we got a PS3

OP posts:
Littlemousewithcloggson · 07/10/2015 23:06

Loft that is, house isn't posh enough for a lift!

Its personal choice at the end of the day but now that the PS4 has been out for some time the ps3 title availability will be gradually phased out. So increasingly you'll find that titles only come out on the PS4 just like has happened with the wii and wiiU.

We had a wii and went for a PS4 last year for the DSs for Christmas. I personally wouldn't go for the technology that has already been superseded since you'll have to replace again far more quickly.

Mine have both the wii and the PS4 hooked up so that they can still play the old titles.

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 08/10/2015 18:41

We have Disney Infinity 1 with Wii, and 2.0 and 3.0 for xbox 360. We debated getting Wii U, but ds1 is a minecraft fan, so xbox won out. IMO there is a huge difference in the toy box of the infinity 1 on wii and the toy box on infinity 2 or 3 on xbox.

Mine spend a LOT of time on the toy box part, creating, destroying, battling, and whatever else they can do. They use any and all figures they can.
