Keyboard for a 6 year old

Hi

My ds really wants a keyboard for Christmas. I should start by saying that we are not a musical family (playing) but love listening to music. My dh says there is no point in getting a non-weighted one in case he wants to take it up properly in future but everything I have seen is £100+ (more like £200) and I am not convinced he will use it that much. I thought more that we should buy a cheaper one and then next year, if he plays with it a lot and wants lessons etc., we could upgrade. (I would like one that he could use headphones with...)

So, I am after advice please. Would you buy a more expensive one or cheaper one? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

We got DD a cheap one from ToysRUs she she was 6. 2 years later and she still enjoys using it, and practices between lessons on it. If she keeps up the lessons then we'll probably upgrade in a year or two.

Thanks chairmeoh. Good to know we don't need to start expensive.

Great find xalyssx. It looks perfect!

I bought my dd a Casio one in Amazons Black Friday deals last year. I lost it in the loft Blush and have recently found it so she will be getting it this year instead. Dd is 6.5. I can't link to Amazon but it's SA-78, has good reviews and often drops in price.

I've just realised it is pink round the edges, I'm sure there is a green version but is smaller.
