Science kit recommendations

Can anyone recommend a science kit for a 7yr old please.
He already has a circuits set and is quite interested in engineering.
He's very sensible and good at following instructions so would be ok with a set aimed at older children.
I'm just not sure which brand to go for, I don't want to waste money on something that turns out to be rubbish.
TIA

The science machine tin can robot was awesome. A little simplistic but still awesome

Mulberry Bush have a good science section, online.

Lots of kits for different ages here. This company supplies schools so they are designed with UK kids in mind

123 thanks for the mulberry bush tip, I've found all sorts of things on there that I'll be adding to my list!

Great! I love their stuff. If you register with them they send you a book with loads of the stuff in it. I leave it lying around, then the kids have a browse,"oh look at this Mummy". Thats Christmas sorted,Grin.

Avoid the crystal growing kits though. My eldest was desperate for one of these, but it is so hard. One of the very few things that is lying gathering dust....

Thank you slug, that site is awesome. I'll let dh browse that one as those kits are right up his street - I can see him spending hours at the table teaching dc's to solder lol

Funnily enough DS got a crystal growing kit for his birthday over the summer and both he (8) and DD(4) love it. I obviously need to supervise closely but we'll be replacing it when they finish it. Just another viewpoint!
