Nerf newbies - help!

I have 2 sons aged between 5 and 10, yet we haven't got into these so far. Ds2 had fun with one at a friend's house recently so I thought I would get one for Christmas. I hadn't realised it was so complicated - and expensive!

I've come off Amazon with my head spinning. Can anyone recommend a good one t start with - I suppose I should get ds1 one too so they can play, but he isn't really into that kind of thing, so don't want to spend a fortune.

Thanks.

I've got girls but the small nerf gun twin pack is the favourite in our house. Great when friends come round too as they can play together

We really like the dart tag game - Velcro darts and a vest, and protective glasses and the idea is to get as many darts stuck to your opponent as possible. So much fun.

That said,we have enough Nerf guns to necessitate an entire rack and we do love the big battery powered mad ones :)

Our boy has had several. He loves them. I always thought I'd never be a fan of them but the dc get so much enjoyment from them.

The elite strongarm blaster is ds's favourite I think because it has a quick reload and space for 6 bullets.

We did get him a hail fire, it takes loads of bullets but quite honestly, it's never worked properly.

I yes dh and I play with them too like the single bullet ones, you do have to reload with every shot but they have serious power and can go for miles!!

Interested in this too -currently have some of the cheaper option but both boys (8 and 6) are after the big boys ones this year (which seem to come with a hefty price tag!)

asilly question but the bulletts, do you pick them up and reuse after?

autumnintheair · 21/09/2015 11:27

also would an older child with no sibs to pay with get anything out of them

EasyFromNowOn · 21/09/2015 12:39

Autumn - yes, you have to pick the bullets up and re-use them. You will lose lots, and you will also find them in unexpected places like inside the pair of boots you left by the front door...

You can buy packs of just bullets but there are a couple of different kinds - some of the very big guns take larger bullets so make sure you get the right ones. You can never have enough, ime.

Does your child have anyone else around to play with? It's definitely a multi-player kind of thing, I think. Mine play with the other kids in the street, we have Nerf wars that last days sometimes, and span three or four back gardens!

You can get targets for them (or just set up your own, my son enjoys shooting his stuffed animals!) to play alone. Although I would say if you buy nerf guns for an only child, prepare to get shot yourself ;) my kids like to attack daddy when he gets in from work :D
