It was last year. Count back 3 weeks from when you want delivery and write it on your calendar - once the Christmas delivery slots are bookable they go fast.

Im a biut thick

How far in advance then should I do my cHRISTMAS SHOP? 3 weeks before I want it delivering?

Are the delivery charges more expensive at christmas?

marthamoo · 26/11/2006 12:51

The slots open up for booking 3 weeks in advance. So once Christmas week slots - ie., 18th December onwards open up, they get booked up really quickly. So count three weeks back from that week (the week running up to Christmas) - and as soon as the slots are bookable, do your shop and choose the delivery day you want.

I don't ever have mine delivered on Christmas Eve, btw - I leave myself a day or so in case there is stuff missing. One of my friends had a Christmas Eve delivery one year and had no turkey, no bacon, no potatoes, no sprouts, no crackers, no Quality Street (she was most peed off about the Quality Street, I think). She ended up trawling round the shops with two children in tow, in the dark, on Christmas Eve. Not good.

Delivery charges are the same in the week, iirc - maybe more for Christmas Eve/New Years' Eve (but this year it's a Sunday so would be more anyway).

How quickly do the christmas delivery slots get booked. I had an email to say that asda ones would be available to book from midnight next thursday - do I really need to stay up til midnight to book one for the week before christmas. it will be the first year I have done christmas shop online

marthamoo · 26/11/2006 12:53

I've just looked. Atm you can book a slot up to the 16th December. So it's going to be next week - start making lists!

marthamoo · 26/11/2006 12:54

TTT, I think it depends where you live - they go fast here, I always do my shop the day the slots for the week before Christmas become bookable. I've never stayed up til midnight though!

TwoToTango · 26/11/2006 12:56

Thanks marthamoo. I'll probably try and remember to book a slot early the following morning. At least I'll know how it works for next year.

Joceybean · 02/12/2006 07:24

Tesco slots now available for 22 Dec, the last day for delivery before christmas I believe.

Bozza · 02/12/2006 07:33

The thing to do is book a slot with a basic order. And then nearer the time go in and amend it.

Joceybean · 02/12/2006 08:35

Thats what I do. At least you get the slot you want. You can amend as many times as you like. I have just put a couple of bits and bobs in. I know I will add loads more by the time it comes around.

maggymay · 02/12/2006 09:47

I booked mine on thursday and I did it with a loaf of bread and a pkt of mince pies will add the rest when I am sure what I need very dissapointed that they charge the same all week I always have my shopping delivered on a wednesday when its cheaper

santasaltire · 02/12/2006 10:00

I have just managed to book my delivery slot for the 22nd, loads of them availiable here. Mind you i have a slot booked with asda as well, just in case i couldn't get this one!

boomie · 02/12/2006 11:11

Just booked my slot for the 22nd too - hope everything manages to get delivered or else I'll be battling with the crowds (which sort of defeats the object of having it delivered in the first place )

Gillian76 · 02/12/2006 15:37

Remember you have to check out within 2 hours!

Have done my shop for Friday 22nd. Feeling very organised

The trouble with Asda though now is that they have introduced a minimum order value of £25 before you check out. Still a couple of bottles of vodka and you are nearly there! I will take them out when I do the final order. Honest!
