Lego Elves....

Lego Elves sets were released earlier this year - very quietly I thought as didn't see any hype about them and not linked to any film or book. We were actually in the lego shop in DLP in February when we saw them but my daughter wasn't interested at the time.
For her birthday in June we bought her The Pegasus Sleigh set, she absolutely loved it and then spent some birthday money on Naida's Epic Adventure Ship, it has totally captured her imagination....
I have now ordered the book (due to be released in August ) and Skyra's castle set both for Christmas as I think these Lego sets are really lovely and the play value in our house already has been huge.
They are more girl orientated I think but do have a couple of boy elves in the series ( Farran and Johnny Baker) so not totally gender specific as is Lego Friends in my opinion. Farran in particular talks to the animals and is very nature orientated. There is an animated episode on u tube / lego elves website explaining the story behind the keys/ elves/ portals. ( I don't want this post to be a mumsnet argument over gender specific lego!) Grin
The point of the post really is that 8/9/10 years can be quite a difficult age to buy actual toys for and I think these sets are great - my daughter is an avid reader and hopefully as she gets into books like the Hobbit / fantasy she will carry on enjoying this Lego for a long time. Even the artwork on the boxes is quite special.
I think they are also quite good value for money (in Lego terms) as the larger sets aren't too expensive I presume because there are no royalties to pay as with Disney/Star Wars set.
Hope this post maybe helps people stuck for ideas.Smile

Funny enough my 10 year old was given a small set of Elves Lego at the weekend. Its nice, she likes it a lot and has expressed an interest in saving up her pocket money for more.

giggly · 07/08/2015 00:40

I was looking at these last week with my dd as I like to get some stuff in early. Both my dd's 6 & 10 loved the look of them. I am going to wait for the next Argos 3 for 2 though, unless they are on offer elsewhere.

MintJulip · 07/08/2015 14:33

Thanks op!

I got a small part of lego elves for my 7 year old DD, for xmas, also check out lego creator if you have not seen it already, do cute animals, can turn one into three using same pieces.

brilliant value and play longetivity. and if she likes fantasy stuff....also check out these sorts of schliech figures "Bayala" lovely fantasy stuff.

bamboostalks · 07/08/2015 14:38

Yes saw them in a shop, I did a double take as also seen no hype. They're lovely and rather less obviously girly than friends sets.

Nearlyadoctor · 07/08/2015 20:27

Thanks MintJulip- we do already have a couple of the creator sets, furry animals and Rainforest animals and they are really good.

I will have a look at the schliech type figures as well - sound ideal

My dd also mentioned Lego Chima and there seemed to be some quite good deals but having had a closer look I'm not convinced on the play value of them.

Im going to pop some schleich in her stocking - found good prices on toysforlearning website.

will check out chima.

I have also been very indulgent of her - and got the rapunzle tower, even though I know once its built not much play value but she was swooning over it in catalougue and I reckon her little sis will enjoy it too?

Hissette · 08/08/2015 19:21

I agree they look lovely and I want a set for myself Smile

My 8 year old is totally not interested in this sort of thing though Sad

UniS · 08/08/2015 19:22

China sets are pretty high play value. DS likes setting challenges to run speedors through and awarding himself chi.

Nearlyadoctor · 08/08/2015 19:53

MintJulip will have a look at toysforlearning not a website I'm familiar with.

Dd also liked Rapunzel tower and Cinderella castle and carriage, I could go on spending forever....

Skyra castle arrived today and it looks amazing - really pleased! Smile

Yep, I'd been champing at the bit to buy DTDs me these sets since I first saw them posted on lego forums Grin they're fantastic, and I'm looking forward to this series continuing!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 08/08/2015 19:56

I might have got an extra two treehouse sets to make one big one

Also read today that as of 12th August Lego are releasing a monthly Elves comic - each one with a small piece of Lego ( first one with the Panther although can't remember which elf it belongs to).

DD bought Farrans Crystal Hollow today with some saved birthday money, so now the castles arrived only 4 sets left to go.....

I feel this christmas could be all about LEGO - can't remember a Christmas when I was more excited!!

MintJulip · 09/08/2015 09:37

nealry our xmas will be all about lego too!

Don't forget tesco also does some offers spend £50 and get 1000 points spend £75 and get 1500 etc. They do this offer REALLY frequently.

worth a look if you get the vouchers? we buy lego and now have loads of extra points to go on days out with too ( booked whipsnade zoo)

DD has got a house lego creator set from GP looks utterly brilliant - called changing seasons,

we have got her lego creator the monkey one and fierce creatures and also - the rapunzel castle AND - AND !! We got her a huge box of "creative" lego, new venture for us, but lots of pieces and windows and wheels to make loads of different stuff from...

I just found in the dark horrid months of January and Feb, these sets really kept her going and kept her amused for hours and was nice for DH to do with her .

for toddler she has also got all legoed up, she adored as did older DD the cake set, we have got her some duplo sets too.

I LOVE LEGO.

am new to it all though.

Will look into that magazine we got the creative workshop.

Nearlyadoctor · 09/08/2015 14:36

MintJulip we have Rainforest Creator for this year, last year it was Furry Animals.

DD built 3in1 Apple Tree cottage yesterday from a few years ago and asked the other day about the new changing seasons set...
Lego Lego Lego - love it Grin I fancy the scooby Doo sets as well.......

Am looking forward to the dr who set being released Smile

Nearlyadoctor · 09/08/2015 14:45

Degust I wish they would re release the Harry Potter sets, that would be brill. We have Hogwarts but nothing else.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 09/08/2015 15:47

I think I only ended up getting the chamber of secrets HP set, but that was left back in Oz. I've collected two huge modular sets this year (my poor wallet!!) Grin

MintJulip · 10/08/2015 18:10

I noticed they had an amazing looking lego creator of the north pole! it was stunning and for some mad reason they have stopped it. Sad.

BicycleGasoline · 10/08/2015 20:11

How long do sets stay "current" for? I love the look of Lego elves but DD isn't quite 4 yet. She's starting to get to grips with the easier Friends sets but she wouldn't be able to tackle the elves yet. Are they likely to be around for a few years or do they discontinue sets as they release new ones? I can already see that a lot of the friends sets I like the look of are no longer available new.

Nearlyadoctor · 10/08/2015 20:51

No idea really Bicycle but doesn't seem to be more than a couple of years. Although I had my eye on a lovely Christmas creator set that only came out last year and was then discontinued after Christmas.

TBH I bought some Lego friends when it was first released for DD and we built it together ( mainly me) but she loved playing with it. Now at 8 she builds it all herself.

OP posts:
BicycleGasoline · 10/08/2015 22:30

Hmm, looks like I'll have to look out for deals on the elves this year then so I can build them so I can put them away for when she's older.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 11/08/2015 07:53

DTDs are not quite 4 so I've (had a lot of fun) been building them and they've been watching the vids on the Lego elves site and playing with them Smile

durhamgirl · 11/08/2015 22:06

Amazon have a few of the Elves sets at around 25% cheaper than the Lego shop, I find that Lego hardly ever gets reduced more than that!

Azari and the Magical Bakery

The Elves' Treetop Hideaway

Naida's Epic Adventure Ship

Aira's Pegasus Sleigh

Skyra's Mysterious Sky Castle

MintJulip · 12/08/2015 15:13
