dd2, who was 7 in October, wrote the following last night:

Dear father christmas

I would like for christmos pleas a rea hamster whith a caje please pleas pleas!

Love from Alex
XXXXXXXX

And she drew a really pretty picture to go with it.

Now, I'm not the best at housework in the world, and we've got a Springer spaniel that chases anything that moves.

But I was moved by her little letter.

What would you do?

go with TC idea and get her a tarantula instead. they are the best pets and need almost no care and we are very cute.

Trust me!!!

Sorry about the sock confusion!

anorak, you have nothing to be sorry about at all!

tarantula, I couldn't do it. Those October BIG spiders freak me out enough, and I think they would dd2 too.

Mum says I should go for it. I know I'll end up scared to pick up the thing, scared it'll bite me, scared our dog will pick it up (although he's had various bits of wildlife in his mouth before and they've always been unharmed). And have another job cleaning it out.

BTW, what's the difference between a gerbil and a hamster? If a gerbil has a tail, that's done it for me. Enough rats in our garden to weave a mat with their tails ....

Someone tell me what to do!!!

Voodoo, as suzywong is apt to say, link for the lazy please! (For cages with plastic tunnels in them).

Sigh.
