construction toys of any variety

diggers

trains

auntymandy · 15/11/2006 14:30

Depends. Mine love trains and cars. Also gluing and sticking. They love their dolls and T.sets too. I think children of 2 and 3 like much the same rgardless of gender..its parents that tend to genderise (is that a word?) things

Blackduck · 15/11/2006 14:32

auntymandy · 15/11/2006 14:34

explanation!

MrsMills · 15/11/2006 14:36

having 2 ds's myself I have been called poo poo head once or twice before!

gladbag · 15/11/2006 14:37

Well.....my 2.9 old ds is currently obsessed with his

marble run
train track
tractors, cars etc especially battery-powered
balls of all shapes and varieties
play tools
jigsaw puzzles (Noddy, Toy Story, Scrat from Ice Age, diggers, Bob the Builder)
pretend cooking and playdough
construction stuff - duplo, lego, nuts and bolts

(that makes him sound like a real gender-stereotype, but that's just how it is....) HTH

Bucketsoffrozendinosaurs · 15/11/2006 14:37

I've said it before and I'll say it again - all 2yr olds love a handbag! How about a nice fluffy backpack or coolbag?

These are the best dinosaurs and animals in the market IMO. Totally indestructible.

moonshine · 15/11/2006 14:41

My ds likes:

Things with wheels which he can push around

Noisy toys with buttons to press (Woolies and ELC do good police car/fire engines-type things).

Jigsaws, especially of wild animals, dragons (again ELC do a good one) and dinosaurs

Non-threatening, ie non-moving, dinosaurs (stretchy ones especially)

Bob the Builder toys like Scoop, Muck etc which 'say' a few phrases and can be pushed around
or zoomed across a floor (Woolies again have these at a good price usually)

Lego duplo (there's a good tub with which you can build lots of different animals)

Ds is loves bouncy Tigger (c£15 on Amazon atm - £10 cheaper than anywhere else)

Books with vehicles (Dig Dig Digging and Emergency, both by the same author are very good) or animals (Monkey Puzzle) or Harry and his Bucketful of Dinosaurs.

DVDs of Meg and Mog, Pocoyo, Bob the Builder

Erm, can't think of anything else off the top of my head (typical boy,but he also hates Fireman Sam and loves colouring-in, Princesses and pink thanks to his big sis).

My ds (2.11) loves Underground Ernie - the trains etc are just coming out now, but M & S have a cute Ernie dressing up outfit at the moment.

He also likes most of the sets Tesco's have - diggers, fire-engines etc

suzywong · 15/11/2006 14:53

Big vote for construction toys
can't beat a big Tonka Toy IMO

FIMBO · 15/11/2006 14:55

here

AttillaTheHan · 15/11/2006 14:58

My son is 2.7 years and absolutely loves music of any kind - song CD's, keyboard, musical books etc.
I'd also recommend sticker books, playdoh and painting materials.
