DH had suggested a sat nav system for christmas but I know he feels he will only use it for work so is a bit reluctant. Suddenly had the idea that he would love a playstation or something similar but am a total dummy about what is on offer. I've looked at a few threads but read horror stories of everything being out of stock so what exactly are my options to go out and by.

I can't even work out what we would need for each of the systems. Toysrus have a xbox 360 core pack for £200 - if that everything? I'd be happiest bying a complete package and maybe a couple of games but which do I go for? Looking to spend up to £250 but that is stretching it a bit.

Tips please

We have a playstation and ds and dh would sit on it for hours. Dh brothers have them 2. GEt loads of games at ok prices and you can also play interactive through pc against other people. Not sure how that works as dont even know how to switch it on

kids have an xbox
and it has done them really well, still going after 3yrs

btw blockbuster sell games for around a fiver each as they are ex rental

Thanks Doormat - have now located plenty of places with the xbox so have decided to go for that (DH always wants the best and I guess its the best at the mo - if I got him a PS2 he's want no3 as soon as it came out!)
play.com seems to be offering the best deal. Just trying to muster up the nerve to part with all my cash now

But was a bit worried about the cost of the games so I will try to located a blockbuster and then I can give him a selection - maybe one each from the kids. And they can hand theirs over first. That'll get him!

the nintendo Wii comes out the 20th of december. nintendo are always top quality and at the forefront of the industry.

platstation are hunks of junk!

the best currently available is the xbox 360 and you should be ableto get soe good packages for that.

flamesparrow · 15/11/2006 14:01

Have they moved the wii back? It was meant to be about the 9th

PinkTinsel · 15/11/2006 14:11

whoops, typo on my part, lol! yeah i think it's the 9th still. wonder where that 20 came from

elliot3 · 06/12/2006 13:17

anybody able to help me with this - where can I get a wii nintendo on the 8th? Woolworths have taken my name??

serenitynightholynight · 06/12/2006 13:23

We preordered ours back in October with HMV (who are Nintendos official launch partners!) and have had an email to say that we won't get ours on Friday However they didn't say we wouldn't get it before christmas (Dsis, who's actually getting it for DSs, has been trying since friday to ring them for more info) However Dh says that Argos are saying that they will get further stock in before Christmas so it's worth keeping an eye on them.

If you're really determined and you can get to Central London on Thursday, HMV Oxford Street have a limited number on sale at midnight, see here

Start queuing early.....

elliot3 · 06/12/2006 13:30

definitley not that determined - can't be arsed with searching for a christmas present, the whole hype thing drives me mad. Do you think they'll be any good? Presumably Nintendo will have plenty in order to cashin on xmas?

serenitynightholynight · 06/12/2006 18:39

I think it'll be good (but bear in mind me and DH are sad games geeks - have gamecube, PS2 and XBox already) From everything I've read I think Nintendo have underestimated the market over here, but then that always seems to happen with the launch of consoles. Japan and the US get it first and we get bits and bobs afterwards.
