OK!

I'm distressed reading about those of you who are worried sick about Christmas and having no money to buy things for your children!

Rather than sit of my ample backside and do nothing I have the following proposal to make.

Those of you who have old toys/gifts which are in good condition, or who are willing to buy a new gift for a child can register your contributions with me.

Those of you who are down on your uppers can send me your details - name, address, age and gender of children, what kind of things they like!

Those lovely MN who will send me Christmassy things will be matched up with those people who would like a bit of a hand with Christmas.

Those giving pressies will wrap the pressie and label it 'To XXX from Santa', and then send it to the address given to them.

If people receiving presents want to remain anonymous then I can ask people to send their contributions to me, and I will forward them onto the gift receiver, I will bear the postage cost of the onwards posting!

If people want to help, but have no toys etc to do so, then a small amount on a gift voucher for woolies, argos or the like can be sent instead!

Please post on this thread whether you think it is a winger - if we get at least 10 givers and 10 receivers then I will go ahead with it, and will post my email address to start the ball rolling!

Receivors must be regular MNetters, in case we are deluged from other sites

So it is over to you guys - good idea or not???

I love this thread!

Well done to GLTC and Soapy!

Bienchen · 22/11/2006 20:06

Soapbox, happy to send a gift voucher. What a fab idea and thanks for organising this.

Mirage · 22/11/2006 20:14

Hi,
Have emailed about some maternity clothes & listed my other stuff. Thanks so much for doing this.

GeorginaA · 22/11/2006 20:42

Soapy - have emailed about a nomination - could you confirm if you've received the email please

NYceMummy · 22/11/2006 20:52

OOOOOH, I have THE e-mail from soapy - I can play Secret Santa!!!

fussymummy · 22/11/2006 23:14

Would it be a good idea if we also enclose some wrapping paper with the gifts we send?

So the family concerned can wrap the pressies up.

I just love all of this, what everyone is doing to help.

fussymummy · 22/11/2006 23:15

GLTC what a fantastic company you are to help like this.

Wish more companies were like you!!!!!

munz · 23/11/2006 08:04

GLTC -u guys are the best, big thanks and hugs to everyone there, it really will help out a family(ies) in need this year

every time I read this thread just lately i'm in tears - you're all so kind.

(soapy haven't mailed you back yet, but just to let you know i'll get in the attic this w/e and sort out what i've got up there, I know it's not brand new bit's but really hoping someone can make good use if them)

corrina28 · 23/11/2006 08:11

hooray we have been matched - now just a quick question or actually 3

  1. when are we sending gifts??
  1. how are they to be packaged? ie first wrapped in xmas paper then in packaging stuff to post it??
  1. do we address the parcel to the child?? or to the parent so it can be put away for xmas??

Just want to check dont want to do it all wrong

munz · 23/11/2006 08:13

ooh I haven't been ,matched yet with anyone. hope soapy hasn't forgotten me - or perhaps you're not that far down the alphabet?

lemonaid · 23/11/2006 08:25

Neither have I, munz, so I wouldn't worry about it! In spite of soapy's superhuman powers, there's probably a limit to her typing speed...

pinkranger · 23/11/2006 08:29

i have also been matced , glad you asked that corr as i am unsure aswell x

munz · 23/11/2006 08:32

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 23/11/2006 08:33

Soapbox,

I've just CATed you with a list of things I can offer as I couldn't find your email on this thread. I think you're one of the most generous people I've known! This thread makes me proud that I'm a MNetter .

munz · 23/11/2006 08:35

here's the email address again as it seems to have been lost amongst the posts

mellowandreadyforchristmas · 23/11/2006 09:02

hi soapbox,

please ignore CAT as I've now sent you a bigger list of things I can offer over email.

iota · 23/11/2006 09:37

I have a match

for those of you who queried wrapping teh present, this is what Soapbox said in her first post:

"Those giving pressies will wrap the pressie and label it 'To XXX from Santa', and then send it to the address given to them."

mummyhill · 23/11/2006 09:40

Just emailed you with a list of stuff I have available.

bronniemuldoon · 23/11/2006 10:01

I have got a match email (and am very excited) but just wanted to clarify wrapping/labelling instructions. I have emailed you Soapy but know you are probably wading through a ton of stuff so have posted here too.

Just wasn't sure whether to wrap and label the presents myself for specific chidren in the family but then thought the Mum might like to see what her children are being given and allocate them herself (ie one child might already have something whereas another might not - which I wouldn't know). Also whether it should be labelled from Santa or the Mum. I am more than happy to wrap and label or send wrapping paper and labels for the recipient to use. Aaaghh sorry to complicate things more. I will go away now.

corrina28 · 23/11/2006 10:11

bronniemuldoon i wouldnt worry i have asked the same questions. maybe we should all write MUMSNET on the parcel so the parent knows before opening it what it is, then it gives them a chance to hide it and open when dc are not around??

corrina28 · 23/11/2006 10:12

munz thats a great idea, what do u have in mind?

mummyhill · 23/11/2006 10:21

from op

"Those giving pressies will wrap the pressie and label it 'To XXX from Santa', and then send it to the address given to them."

But putting mumsnet on it so that parents know what it is iyswim.

mummyhill · 23/11/2006 10:22

that should read putting mumsnet on the parcel is a great idea so that parents know what it is. Realy need to get my brean in gear today.

laudaud · 23/11/2006 10:36

have just checked out Icelands website and found they accept high street gift vouchers \link{http://www.highstreetvouchers.com/}

If you are still looking for turkeys (food for Christmas dinners) this might be a way we can donate.

I'll be fed and watered over Christmas by my mum as going home to Ireland for Christmas day - first time in 3 years. Very happy to send through some vouchers if you advise where to send - they are available in denominations of £1, £5, £10.

Turkeys/geese available in Iceland between £10 and £15.

laudaud · 23/11/2006 10:40

try again high street vouchers
