OK!

I'm distressed reading about those of you who are worried sick about Christmas and having no money to buy things for your children!

Rather than sit of my ample backside and do nothing I have the following proposal to make.

Those of you who have old toys/gifts which are in good condition, or who are willing to buy a new gift for a child can register your contributions with me.

Those of you who are down on your uppers can send me your details - name, address, age and gender of children, what kind of things they like!

Those lovely MN who will send me Christmassy things will be matched up with those people who would like a bit of a hand with Christmas.

Those giving pressies will wrap the pressie and label it 'To XXX from Santa', and then send it to the address given to them.

If people receiving presents want to remain anonymous then I can ask people to send their contributions to me, and I will forward them onto the gift receiver, I will bear the postage cost of the onwards posting!

If people want to help, but have no toys etc to do so, then a small amount on a gift voucher for woolies, argos or the like can be sent instead!

Please post on this thread whether you think it is a winger - if we get at least 10 givers and 10 receivers then I will go ahead with it, and will post my email address to start the ball rolling!

Receivors must be regular MNetters, in case we are deluged from other sites

So it is over to you guys - good idea or not???

Have just sent msg through aol, nver used that email before so not sure if it will work. Can you let me know if you receive it or not please, thank you

Flossam · 17/11/2006 14:22

Hi SB - I have emailed you about being in one of those areas - happy to help.

Also had a flash of inspiration while emailing - I have a gift to offer but now worrying that it will be ok that I already have something rather than going out to buy a gift - kind of makes your job all the more complicated. Sorry.

nappyaddict · 17/11/2006 14:36

have been lurking on this thread for a while, plucking up the courage to post. i have finally nominated DS as a receiver, but i know i am lucky this year in the fact that he is only 6 months and doesn't even know what is going on. so far all the presents he will be getting are off my mum and dad and i feel so bad that i haven't been able to get him anything. i couldn't even get a credit card or anything because the bank wouldn't accept me or increase my overdraft. seems they have more sense than i do! okay i think i am rambling now but it is so nice of all you people to help people like me out at a time like this. thankyou so so so much xx

soapbox · 17/11/2006 14:43

Pesha - got your email - and nappyaddict and floss as well

NEWS:

I am off for the weekend up to Scotland to see my mum. So I will not be back on this thread, or answering any emails until Sunday evening!

I have no internet access at all, except for my Blackberry which is no good on long threads like these

But please, please, please keep posting and keep those offers of help coming in! They will make all the difference you know.

I will catch up with the nominations next week - so watch out for that!

Furball · 17/11/2006 16:43

no forms - just email a) things you have that are good condition that can be sent on
or
b) the promise to buy something new for somebody who soapbox matches you with
or
c) the promise to buy vouchers from somewhere for someone
or
d) assistance with postage costs
or
anything else you can think of that will help

Don't know how on earth I missed this thread, but have emailed you Soapbox with an offer of any help I can give. Hope I'm not too late.
Well done everyone. This surely is the true spirit of Christmas.

littleducks · 17/11/2006 18:11

soapbox, i have some books in my "present" drawer that i will happily contribute but as i dont actually celebrate xmas would it be ok to send them unwrapped as i dont have paper, or would plain more birthday style paper be ok? i realise its no very christmassy???

Bananaknickers · 17/11/2006 18:12

Hello

It has taken me two days to post this as everytime I go to I become so overwhelmed I can't get the words out. Here goes
Thank you to the wonderful mumsnetters who put my name forward. It has meant so much more to me than getting a gift to know that there are people out there thinking about us enough to take the time to e mail. You are all beyond kind. There I go again crying.I really am so so touched.Thank you.I am not good with words
I also have a couple of things to pass on that have never been played with and my children have outgrown so will be doing that too.

DimpledThighs · 17/11/2006 18:27

DelGirl · 17/11/2006 18:29

I've not had an email. Did you get mine Soapbox, I sent it a couple of days ago? Assume it would have bounced back if not.

fluppy · 17/11/2006 20:53
