anyone got one of these? the nativity or christmas tree ones with little pockets of velcro-on bits at the bottom.

can you please explain how they work? are they just felt backgrounds with hook-side velcro on the sticky-on bits? or are there spots of velcro on the background for sticking purposes?

i've set myself the rather ambitious task of making one of these in the next 2 weeks, but i want to be sure it'll actually work.

also what should i put in the pockets (doing christmas tree cos it gives greater scope for variety)? have though of angel, star, reindeer, holly, candle, snowflake, drum, but starting to dry up now - festive suggestions much appreciated

We have the nativity one - characters and shapes that sit in a pocket for each day. You take the relevant one and stick it to the background (velcro on back) of a fabric stable. This will slowly build up a picture of the nativity. For your tree one you could make present shapes, crackers, snowmen, gingerbread man, start, angels, fairies, father chrismas, sleigh, baubles etc

so just to be clear - there's velcro only on the pieces in the pockets, and not on the background? and the backgrounds are made of felt? do they stick okay or do they drop off?

Yes the little things have velcro and the tree is materiel i am not sure if it is felt

we have had ours for years and it still worked last year

Haven't got it out yet this year

The back of the shape has velcro and there are velcro bits attached to the background, which is not felt but cotton (or something similar). You then attach your shapes to the velcro and build up a picture.
