Advent Candles Anyone?

I'm thinking of getting the children an advent candle this year as something different.

Has anyone used these before, any opinions?

Don't know what an advent candle looks like, have just see advent wreaths with candles on?

I've had them and really like them although I don't have children at home yet.
I hvae also used them at work. they can be quite slow to burn.
It is sometimes quite hard to get hold of them. Last year I got mine from a national trust shop

I've been sent an e-mail for some and they are 5.50 each which I don't think is too bad and they are more prettier than advent calender imo

I was in a Chelsea candles shop today getting a Yankee candle for mil, they had advent candles for £2.25 - plain long candles with each day marked on the side so you just burn a bit each day. At that price, if the kids aren't into it it won't matter.

Here (in Germany) they have wreaths with (I think) 4 candles on them. You light a new one each Sunday counting down to Christmas. So one week you'll light the first, next week the same and a second one, etc. I find it quite a nice tradition, I always buy one.

They used to make those every year on Blue Peter using two wire coat hangers and tinsel! I always wanted to make one! Or am I the only one old enough to remember those?

I saw some recently - in Past Times I think.

The only thing with advent candles is remembering they're lit. It's very to find yourself into next week!

We always have advent candles (the 4 candles in a wreath) My mum used to make a big thing about lighting it each week. Same at school. Never had one of those big ones you burn a little everyday though.... but sounds nice

Podmog,

How absolutely lovely. We ALWAYS have an advent candle, did even before child.

But I love the idea of reading out the story. Please what is the book?

dreamcatcher · 02/11/2006 14:37

Got one for my kids yesterday in Lidls for about a pound.

piximon · 02/11/2006 16:36

Saw some being sold in M&S, I think a choc advent callendar was included in the price. Can't remember how much they were, prob too much!

bustybrenda · 02/11/2006 18:59

we always have an Advent candle (the type where it is just one single long candle with the days all the way down - we love em!

bustybrenda · 02/11/2006 18:59

By the way - always pick this type up in Wilko for under a quid
