My turkey crown has just been delivered

Use by date is 26th

I will cook it either 25th/26th

How long is it then safe to Eat for? Should I freeze it now?

Personally I would stick it in the freezer now and take it out the necessary time to defrost before you use it.

afreshstartplease · 22/12/2014 20:39

Hmm I thought as much! Now to try and find freezer space

As long as you cook it by 26th, its still safe to eat for 3 days afterwards.

Imnotaslimjim · 22/12/2014 20:44

Meat keeps for 3 days from cooking, so cooking it on 26th will give you a couple of extra days from it

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 22/12/2014 20:46

I had this dilemma last year and the nice man in Tesco said that all the turkeys were dated with the 26th. I would say it will be perfectly fine for Thursday and into the weekend. You are more likely to get a tummy bug from freezing and then defrosting it over such a short period.

Blankiefan · 22/12/2014 20:57

All turkey's I've ever seen have been best before 26th dec (Xmas turkeys that is)... One year I waited til Xmas eve to buy a longer dated one and the buggers we're still 26th everywhere!

afreshstartplease · 22/12/2014 20:58

So overall opinion is cook 26th safe through to Sunday?

Yes.

LBOCS · 22/12/2014 21:00

Yes, you cook it and it 'resets' the timing on it.

FWIW, I use cooked meat for longer than 3 days after too.

BumWad · 22/12/2014 21:01

Yes
