I need a cheeseboard to serve 8 along with cold meats , salads and leftovers. So far have got crackers, chilli jam and Christmas chutney. It's the cheese in struggling with- both quantity and type. Help please!

For 8 I'd go with 4 large pieces. Personally I'd do a nice cheddar, a camembert or brie, an applewood smoked and a white stilton with cranberries.

buy expensive oatcakes and serve with grapes.

I finished my chilli jam last night which was spectacularly bad timing, must make some more!

You need something blue, Stilton is good or St Agur. No idea on quantity as my family always go way over the top with cheese.

tassisssss · 15/12/2014 16:16

Oh yeah stilton would be good in there too for sure.

String cheddar, Camembert, Comte and Shropshire blue - a blue that everyone likes.

Anything with fruit in is going to be crap, sorry.

I would however serve with fruit.

FurryDogMother · 15/12/2014 16:32

Yeah, String Cheddar, Velveeta, and Laughing Cow? Sorry, Brandy :)

brandyandcoke · 15/12/2014 16:33

Strong cheddar, not string. Westcombe perhaps.

Tunworth (Camembert type cheese from Hampshire, very tangy)
Oxford Blue (creamier than Stilton and very tasty)
Cheddar - Davidstow 3 Year Reserve (purple pack from Sainsburys) - strong and crumbly with tiny salty crystals in it.

Guess, it's a matter of taste. I adore chilli jam with cheese. I don't think it's really a much stronger taste than chutney.

I do: expensive cheddar, Brie, Roquefort and Gruyere

I'm having a thing about Ryvita thins: the cracked pepper is fab

Accompaniments: onion marmalade, celery, almonds and grapes
