I've just been speaking to someone about this. Do You not make it? I never knew you could buy it Xmas Confused

I find the ready made versions too sweet. You can make it really easily with schwartz sachets. You do need to add some sugar but can add it a bit at a time to taste.

Lidl Gluwein is nice

Purplecircle · 15/12/2014 13:47

Co-op and m&s are nice. Home made is nicer though

chanie44 · 15/12/2014 14:10

I second the lidl one.

Here's an easy recipe on the bbc website. I did it the other evening and it was very nice. Left out the gin though:

The waitrose mulled wine is also very nice, I think it's £3.99 per bottle and all you need to do is add Apple slices and some sweet orange.

Homemade is so easy, honestly! Delia's recipe is fab, and you can make it in advance if you need to.

TarnishdWithAshAndSootgremlin · 15/12/2014 14:37

I make delia's in the slow cooker, easy peasy and people always seem to like it.

tassisssss · 15/12/2014 16:14

Delia's here too, with a bit less sugar than she says and minus the additional alcohol.

I LOVE it.

not a red wine drinker at all but really do like a mulled wine this time of year.. what sort of red wine should I buy if I want to make my own? I'm in the ME so the ready made version won't be available.

so which sort should I look out for at the (v expensive!) grog shop??

colleysmill · 15/12/2014 16:42

I posted my fail safe recipe on a thread last week if you have a search :)

tassisssss · 15/12/2014 18:56

I buy super cheap for mulling. By the time you add the sugar and spices I doubt i could tell the difference.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 15/12/2014 18:57

M&S is nice.

AnnieWinehouse · 17/12/2014 14:04

MrsG a fruity Merlot, Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon is best, but any will do really. Spanish or South American. Not too cheap or you may get a vinegary taste, but I find the Spanish and South American ones are always good for this reason, even the cheapo ones.
But in the ME, that may be difficult to gauge!

thanks AnnieWinehouse

I've just made my 2nd batch of mulled wine. £2.99 Aldi red wine is fine. Make a syrup first with sugar, slices of orange plus juice (or basic orange juice), a few cloves, cinnamon stick, star anise, nutmeg, bay leaf and a little red wine before adding the rest of the bottle or two. Simmer for a few minutes on a low heat before serving - easy peasy!
