Dolls house help please

MWestie · 07/12/2014 23:45

My 3yo DD would love a dolls house for Christmas. The wooden one I wanted to go for from Asda had great reviews but is now saying sold out/discontinued on their website, similarly Tesco had one which is no longer showing as available. The ELC one is maybe a bit much, and not sure about the one from Toys R Us. Any recommendations or advice? Thank you in advance, starting to panic Smile

I tried to buy an asda dolls house it kept saying this has been discontinued or out of stock but keep checking, they come back in I managed to order one a couple of weeks ago so you may get lucky.

Alternatively my friend said she had ordered a wooden dolls house from the brilliant gift shop online which was £70 but now half price but it comes with furniture and dolls.

MWestie · 08/12/2014 00:34

Oh I'll check that one out now, thanks for that tip, I don't think I've come across it before. I really had my heart set on the Asda one, looks lovely, hope you like it and will keep checking their site just in case. Running out of time now!

ELC have a large wooden dolls house as their deal of the day- it's reduced from £160 to £80 - there's also £10 when you spend more than £50 on toys. was thinking of getting one for DD for her birthday in January

Dinnerfor1 · 08/12/2014 15:31

The charity shop Sue Ryder sells some lovely dolls houses, though I'm not sure how much they are. They have an online shop if you don't have one near you.

MWestie · 08/12/2014 16:13

New replies, thank you both! Closed, that looks like a fantastic deal on the ELC Manor House, it's unfortunately just too big for our available space at the moment. Thank you Dinner for the Sue Ryder tip, I think I have seen them but for some reason discounted them...will re-investigate Smile

does it have to be new, ebay is a graveyard of excellent second hand dolls houses, they dont seem to sell well, I know I tried selling one too.

you could get one for so cheap, looks brilliant often with box and have £££ left over for accesories, although some come with, saw ELC lovely one with loads of bits for £40 on there the other day....

Hope this works. £50 but includes all the dolls and furniture. We have one, it's brilliant but use Sylvanian families instead of dolls as they're cuter !

MWestie · 08/12/2014 23:13

Thanks for all those links ohgod, some of them look potentially great deals, especially the last one. Not ruling out secondhand/ebay at all though guess haven't really considered it much as know lots of large items usually state collect only, not possible for me just now unless randomly local to me. I think the last link quoted for postage though so am watching it closely, amongst lots of others it seems Smile

Thanks Sauvignon, think I just missed your post last night. Is that the £50 one with the removable roof? I think I did consider that one, it looks lovely, but wasn't sure about the roof...is it easy for little ones to take off the roof as and when they want? Thanks Smile

Dd got a Sue Ryder doll's house for her third birthday in October. It arrived quickly and was pretty straightforward to build. It seems pretty good quality too.

dd has this one. I had great fun furnishing it. I don't like the Sue Ryder doll's house furniture, and was v pleased to find non-pink furniture by a company called Hape on Amazon.

GettingJiggyWithIt · 09/12/2014 11:57

I recommend the Sylvanian families Starter house or the Playmobil transportable house, the latter comes with lots of stuff and you can get on Amazon uk for 29.99 Take Along Dollshouse
The Sylvanian one is the cosy cottage starter home for 27.97
Playmobil is plastic but can be taken with on trips and easily added to
Sylvania is wooden and the animal sets could be future Xmas birthday gifts from family

GettingJiggyWithIt · 09/12/2014 12:05

Sylvania also plastic sorry but looks more wooden.
Don't mind plastic myself as easier to clean.
More for your money with playmobil but sylvania can be added to other houses and the animals are usually up for grabs on eBay.

mwestie sorry yes roof is easy to take off and put back on. We actually bought this for my DDs 1st birthday as she loved her older friends one the same. Still going strong and played with regularly, she has just turned 5. Its great quality and we've been really pleased with it. The footprint is quite narrow too, so doesn't take up too much space.

SauvignonBlank · 09/12/2014 19:13

And for clarification yes the one with the removable roof and 50 pieces. It has good reviews and some people have painted them too.

MWestie · 09/12/2014 21:20

Thank you Bike, that is a gorgeous house. Maybe a bit big for us. Will definitely check out your furniture recommendation, non wall-to-wall pink sounds good.

Thank you too Jiggy, those look great but think prefer something along traditional lines. As you say though, maybe not as practical Smile.

Sauvignon, thanks for that extra info. The Toys r us one may just swing it. We are quite space limited though.

Thanks all, great to get your views.

Ive bought a second hand wooden dolls house and painted it for dd for christmas, and furnished it with Playmobil. Im not a massive fan of "traditional" dolls hoyse furniture and figured its a good way to start off her Playmobil collection. Ive had loads if fun painting and wallpapering it!

The Toys R Us one was nearly bought, but then I found the ebay one. The TRU ones looks like really good value (always seems to be reduced to £50(, and looks paintable too.

dancingwitch · 09/12/2014 21:28

I'm on the Bucks/Berks border. If you are local, I have a 2yo ASDA one which has been played for about half an hour!

MWestie · 09/12/2014 21:39

Hacked the painting and wallpapering sounds fab. I know my limitations though Grin.

dancingwitch sadly no, further north, but your post made me smile...could be my post this time next year after all this palaver...

Any yes, apologies for lack of bold names in previous posts, hope it's working now!

I just bought tester pots of paint from Wilkos and sheets of craft paper from poundland - its very very amateurish Grin
