At a guess how many presents do you think your kids get per Christmas from you and santa not including what I would call stocking fillers eg £2/3 and below items but including items like DVDS which I know some people consider stocking fillers.

No judging..

Ds (5) has 18 plus stocking gifts but no one else buys for him really (small gift off pil) so that's the total of all his gifts.
If we only got 5 or so he wouldn't have any more from anyone else. And then 5 doesn't seem that many. Think we would get less if we had a bigger family who all bought for him. Bils and sils have grown up children and after us buying their four kids gifts for 20 or so years they have now decided not to do gifts anymore. This irritated me a little!

whowill yes we have family who did that too. My mum bought for her kids and grand kids for 25. Years but not my mum has grand kids she's decided it's 'too much hassle'. Pretty convenient really.

Ds and dd do get a lot of presents from other people too - In laws spend about £60 on them, my parents spend £100ish pounds on them and then they have aunties and uncles and friends too......maybe I should buy them nothing at all!!! Wink

My dd's don't get much from family, usually cash or a selection box, my dad and his partner do a bag of small presents for them when we visit after Christmas but on Christmas Day it's only presents from Santa and us which is why I tend to go OTT, I would buy less if they got gifts from relatives .

We don't have a big family, but my mum does buy quite a lot. However, it's the kind of stuff that looks a lot on the day but it soon disappears into the bin sock drawers, craft boxes, the kitchen drawer that I dare not look in etc, or is soon otherwise used up or discarded, so we have to still get the main things he actually wants that will last.

I wish she didn't do it as it is so overwhelming on the day, but she enjoys it and there is no real harm done.

My DS will have about 30 presents between those from me and those from Santa. He will also have a stocking and a Christmas Eve hamper. It does feel like a lot this year (certainly is more than any other years - he's almost 4) but he is in need of some new toys/books/play things so it chance to refresh things.

He will only receive about another 3 gifts from other people, and as he's an only child and I only buy for my him, my two nephews and my Dad, I spend everything on him.

I don't care if anyone reading thinks this is too many gifts - we all do things in life how we want to do them and as long as it's not hurting anyone what does it matter? Christmas is super magical to my son right now, I don't know how many Christmases I'll get to spend with him, or how long the magic will last for him, so I'm making the most of things right now!

5 each. They are only young and I don't want to overwhelm them.

They will get 1 gift from my parents and nothing from in-laws.

Same here Marne, I was speaking to lady the other day who gave me a very prim small list for her dc but then after being prodded admitted to wider family also buying.

We have no one too..so do it all ourselves.

insanityscratching · 04/12/2014 17:30

dd will get generous gifts from her adult siblings and one from the dog but she doesn't have grandparents or wider family to buy for her.

HoHoHappyHolidays · 04/12/2014 17:34

I twitched- now 6 each :P

Ds will have 12 plus a stocking ( if we're counting books as one thing!). It's usually more but this year's present is a biggie!

BedPig2013 · 05/12/2014 07:52

Dd has got lots of little bits in her stocking and Christmas eve box but they are mostly essentials just wrapped up, main presents though she has got 9, 3 of them are duplo sets wrapped separately and 3 are a doll, stroller and clothes wrapped separately.
From wider family she will probably get 8 presents although I expect at least 2 of those will be clothes for her

Cherrypippin · 05/12/2014 10:59

My dc get one big present from Father Christmas and one big present from us. They then have about 12 other presents from us under the tree and a big santa stocking. They will also get about 5 presents from family and usually about £30 each. I have 5dc so it's a lot of presents to get through on christmas morning.

gemdrop84 · 05/12/2014 17:36

8-10 from us and 2 from Santa. About 10-12 little things in their stocking. Last year though, there was 3 from us and 3 from Santa, it varies depending what they want and the budget we have.
