My ddad has started art classes. He does pen and ink drawing and watercolour, he is pretty good. Any ideas for a related Christmas gift? I don't want to just get vouchers as it seems too impersonal

Does he have room for an easel?

A decent spiral bound sketchbook with good quality paper.

Charcoal (as a new medium for him to try)

Gouache paint is lovely to work with - much nicer than acrylics - & can produce flat, even colour or watercolour-type finish. It is my favourite to work with.

Does he have a favourite artist? Perhaps a book on that person & their work? Tickets to an exhibition?

Some really nice brushes and/or inks. If he doesn't have space for a proper easel then he might like a desk one

Ooh some good ideas thanks guys. I think he'd prefer something practical for him to do art rather than about art iyswim. I will ask my mum what he already has. What do I need to know about buying an easel?!
