Flight friendly gift ideas...

Due to moving overseas in the new year our family of four will be living out of suitcases for the next few weeks and crashing with various family members over Christmas. I am struggling to think of small, light gifts for my ds1 age 3 and ds2 10months that will still have the wow factor but also fit in our luggage when we fly to our new home. Any ideas would be gratefully received!

Well I don't think a 10 month old is really going to know whether things have the wow factor or not so wouldn't worry about that. However, small, soft toys probably good, also fabric blocks, also those inflatable rollers which you can get from ELC etc, maybe some plastic bath books or bath toys? For three year old - crafting stuff like colouring and sticking things, some of which can be used up and left behind, also soft toys again, board games which can be removed from their boxes and packed in plastic bags (just store them in plastic tubs in your new home), fuzzy felt?

I usually give the DC some clothes, which come in handy while we are away anyway, and things to occupy them while we are away and on the flight home - colouring and sticker books, little sketch pads, pens or crayons, small playsets, card games, finger puppets/hand puppets (puppets were a big hit). Treat food that can be eaten before we go or on the plane - novelty shaped biscuits, chocolate lollies, that sort of thing.
Last year I gave them both a homemade voucher with lots of hand-drawn pictures of toys all over it, for them to use to choose a toy after we got home (your 10 month old will be too young for that, but the 3 year old might be excited, and also excited to help choose something for the younger one).

Also for the 3 year old perfect time to test Playmobil - a small number of figures plus a few accessories and you can set up base anywhere, they go in the bath, pack up small and are practically indestructible

For the 10 year old stacking cups - again toys that work in the bath, bedroom, where ever, multiple uses and can't break.

Thanks for your reply, yes it was more for the 3 year old I like the idea of the inflatable roller and fuzzy felt would be ideal for the older one. I'm also thinking of a big cardboard box to decorate then leave behind maybe?

How about a space hopper for the 3 year old? Will look big but can be deflated for travel.

Brilliant ideas thank you, edible things sound good and he loves stickers which will be good travel entertainment! The voucher is a great idea too, something for the new house or their room.
