laminator - what do you use them for?

Am thinking about getting one for dh. He loves organising and tidying! Does anyone have one? Are they useful?

Use it loads for the children for learning to write (instead of white board) laminated their work to take into school for show and tell so it doesn't get ruined. Made labels for luggage for school trips - printed off favourite cartoon character and put their name below that then cut to size and laminated it.

I write a basics food list in excel and print off and laminate, then when I need something I tick it then wipe it when it's bought, meal planning, to do list for ds1 who has just started secondary.

Daily cleaning schedule/laundry schedule, I laminate recipes so they wipe clean from any cooking spills and splats. My laminator was cheap thing from Tesco and I have had it at least 6 years. Love it.

Do you think a4 enough? Or worth getting an a3?

We have an A4 one and DP uses it for everything. He's obsessed! But it is really useful - all those kinds of bits of paper that you keep referring to. We have one on the front door with a list of all the things the kids have to take to school each day, one with the wi-fi password on for visitors, one with instructions on how to work the tv/wii/dvd etc, one for breadmaker recipes. And countless special projects with the kids like making super-hero badges and homemade top trumps sets.

I wouldn't bother with A3 - takes up far more room in your house and we've never needed more than A4 size.

I'm usually laminating things I've printed out and since the printer will only do A4 I've not found the need for anything bigger.

As to what I laminiate, most of it is visual aids for the kids. We've also done things like laminate their artwork to use as placemats, labels for storage boxes/draws, instruction booklets.

If you're laminating lots of smaller things you can put a dab of pritt stick on the back to hold them in place in the laminator pouch. Makes it so much easier to feed it through without them all moving around.
