Between toys and teenage bits, ideas needed

DD is 10 and the youngest in her year, most of her friends are already 11 and I think that make her quite sensitive to things being "babyish". However she's not really ready for make up, vouchers and more teenage things, she's still excited by a big box to unwrap.

Trouble is I can't think of anything this year, hoping to find a couple of things in the £10 - £20 range. Trying to avoid craft kits as she got lots for her birthday and hasn't had time to finish them yet.

Our only idea so far is a skateboard, any recommendations for a cheep one would be good. I don't want to buy one that just ends up being frustrating.

How about roller skates? There are some on amazon for about £25

A box set of books from the book people? They always have offers on, and some,of the box sets are brilliant.

She already has roller skates, with another size adjustment to go.Once she's not growing quite so fast I think we'll look into a better pair as they are something she does use.

Haven't looked around at books much but a box set might be an idea. She's been collecting the how to train your dragon ones but I think she's collected them all now.

Ipod shuffle and CDs? Or a small CD player if you want a bigger box.

DS1 is ten this year and has had the NOW CDs each time they come out for the past few years. He now has a good little collection of up to date music.

Audio books are also good. Introduces them to more grown up stories that they still might struggle to read. We've bought Phillip Pullman His Dark Materials (Golden Compass books) this year.

Ohh his dark materials, she'd probably like that. Audio books have defiantly been the way to introduce more complex stories here too.

I did feel out a CD player around her birthday, she still has the sing along one she got at 2 1/2, but she claims to still like it. Mostly she plugs her mp3 player into the guitar amp. Apparently that's awesome!
