Best secret Santa I ever had was a play doh pen knife like tool.

WH Smith has loads of stuff in around the £5 mark which I assume is for the secret santa market - fake moustaches, table top games, etc.

We do Secret Santa in work, and the general feeling is that it should be something silly. But I know that the person I have picked thinks that buying silly stuff is a waste of time, so I have bought her something I think she'll actually like. No doubt it will be frowned upon by the "fun" brigade, but at least she'll be happy.

The officious organiser is the most miserable person imaginable, so it particularly amuses me that she is so insistent on this 'bit of fun' thing!

For the record, I'm not actually miserable - just don't like fake silliness and pointless landfill tat.

Hawkins Bazaar have colour changing bath ducks for £1.50 ,you could get a family of them.

Our office is supporting a particular charity this year... so for our secret santa we have stipulated that you must buy the £5 gift from the charity shop.. that way... even if we buy something the recipient hates, the charity will benefit

Twice I have complained about my crap Secret Santa gift before slowly realising the person I am talking to was the buyer. Twice

I hate secret santa where you have to get something silly, it only works with people who know each other very well, otherwise you can get some very dodgy things. Thankfully in my current job everyone gets 'nice' presents so a box of chocolates is perfect if you don't know someone that well.

But I'm doing a happy dance this year because I got myself in the work Secret Santa, time to check out my own Amazon wish list...!

My DH once got given a SheWee as a Secret Santa 'for your wife'.
I had never met these people and don't have any hilarious getting caught short stories.
So the moral of the story is put absolutely no thought into it!

Actually, I would ignore the 'fun' request and just get a nice bar of chocolate. At least it will likely get eaten and not chucked on the way out the office.

Errr...i instigated this at my work and said almost exactly what asleeponasunbeam's woman said...i'm trying to work out who you are in my team... although i wasn't quite as specifc and i'm not miserable i don't think. I like the charity shop idea. At least that is reusing old stuff rather than new tat

This is why I don't do secret Santa, I got given a g string made of sweets one year - and then went straight to HR about it. It ended in disciplinary for the people involved. Soon takes the fun out of secret Santa.
