Advent activity ideas

We have a felt advent calendar and I put in activities we can do together in the run up to Christmas. Some simple ones like read a Christmas story or drink hot chocolate for busy days and something craft like or trips out for weekends. I'm stumped trying to remember what we have done previously and wondered if anyone would like to share their ideas?

Reindeer food needs updating but yes im going to make a list of Christmas activities as we all have the full two weeks off. I have a 12 days of Christmas box calendar.

Last (COVID ridden) Christmas, a lot of houses in dd’s immediate area arranged to do Advent windows. So each of 24 houses was allocated a day when they’d prepare a Christmassy front window, so local children could do an ‘Advent window’ walk after dark.

It worked very well and the children loved it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they repeat it this year, whether there are restrictions or not.

I break up christmas card making e.g. one day we might do cards for teachers, another day for grandparents.

Choosing a Christmas present for the dog is always popular!

Singing Christmas songs. The dc will learn a Carol on the piano now they are a bit older.

A short treasure hunt works well e.g. find the 12 candy canes hidden around the house.

Learn a Christmas joke to tell to a relative.

Last year we gave each child £3 to spend in the charity shops but they had to buy a gift for their sibling with it. It was their favourite activity by a country mile which we didn't envisage! DS bought his big sister a pair of paisley braces and she bought three books for him. They then wrapped them and put them under the tree, exchanging them on Christmas morning.

My grandson is 4 and I've decided we're going to make pine cone decorations , by painting the tops in glittery paint and glue on ribbons for hangers.
