Best Knife Set?

I'm thinking of asking DP to get me a decent knife set for Christmas. I love cooking but our knives are just a cheapo set from Wilkinson. I'd probably have better luck slicing an onion with a picnic knife Grin

So can someone recommend me a good knife set in the £100-150 price range? I've looked at a few but I don't really know what to go for material or brand wise.

Are you anyway near a MacArthur Outlet place with an Amefa store ?

We bought a general knife last year for about £30 and I went back to get a bread knife on Monday. They have sold out of the individual knives but had a block for £99...rrp was £400+ and outlet price £189 reduced to £99.... I didnt get it but OH has just this minute popped off to get one.

Its this set. Vey have it for £109. We are very happy with the general knife so with this set shouldn't need to ever buy another knife (we are old) Grin

aldi have some sabatier knives in currently i think?

I think rather than buy a set - which always has knives you don't need, you are better off thinking about the knives you like to use and buying just those - even only get one or two this Christmas. I find there is very little I can't do with my global G7 knife. That plus a bread knife (an old cheapy), a small paring knife - which might be sabatier and a good carving knife (again sabatier) are all the knives I really use.

I agree with Silas. Have a think about what knives you need and then buy those. TK Maxx do good deals on Sabatier. My favourite knife of all time is also a Global. Check out Harts of Stur for great deals on individual knives.

I know it's below your suggested price range, but my parents bought my DP this one: www.lakeland.co.uk/15229/Fully-Forged-5pc-Knife-Block

He got it for Christmas three years ago and it is still in perfect condition, and so good that any dinner guests comment on it - my dad always insists on cutting his own bread because he enjoys it so much!

The price of the Global knives Shock

Maybe in 5 years or so I'd have a set Grin

The Sabatier knives look a bit more reasonable. Amazon have them with a hugely discounted RRP. This one for example...

OldRaver, I like the set you suggested too.
