Chess set for kids

DH very keen to teach the DCs chess in next year or two so thinking of buying a set of xmas. Can anyone recommend a set that's particularly good for young DCs (5/6)? OBviously I realise any chess set will do, but I was thinking something chunky might be more appealing and (possibly) less likely to lose pieces. Also something easy to store, perhaps not in a cardboard box which generally get stood on and flattened.

my ds has this one. I thought we bought it from gltc for about £25 / £30 but i can't see it on their website...

We have a really old one, so can't really recommend one. But ours is magnetic which is brilliant as the pieces don't get knocked out of place. Also, the pieces are stored inside so it can be put away.

definitely two features I'd recommend.

I have bought my 7 year old this Mario chess set, it is expensive but I think he will like it a lot

I got DS one from The Entertainer for £5. It's only a basic set, but the pieces are a decent size and I didn't want to spend too much in case it didn't get played with. He seems happy with it.

My Dad bought ds an electronic one from Argos, it was about 20 quid but it's a really good 'toy' on rainy days or when he just wants a bit of down time on his own. He got it when he was 7, he's 13 now and still plays with it a lot.
