Looking for a tablet/kindle for my DD. Mostly will be used for playing app games and reading with a little bit of internet use? Thoughts on best one? Not wanting to spend more than £100. Thanks

Think the Kindle Fire starts from about £80

Sunnyshine · 12/10/2014 11:02

Yes I saw that just wondered if anyone knew what's best, hudl, kindle, other tablets etc. Thanks

dd had the original Fire HD one and it does all that you are asking for . MIL has a Hudl but it feels cheap in comparison and nephew's stopped charging and broke within a few months although Tesco did replace it.

Try the Argos outlet on Ebay. I'm going to get my DC a Samsung tablet from there for £78.99 fully refurbished by the manufacturer.
I figure they'll get a good bit of use out of it and can always put the Kindle app on there for free for them later :) Link underneath

Definitely a samsung tablet , plenty of apps for free easy to use and great for film watching especially show box and playing games.

We have gone for the HUDL 2 which came out last week, we looked at the kindle but wanted something a little bit bigger and didn't want to be tied to buying apps from Amazon.

DD has the kibfle fire Hd, she uses it constantly. I would highly recommend it

Kindle Blush

FloatingPorpoise · 12/10/2014 19:54

Huffpot what's the user name of the Argos outlet?

Hulababy · 12/10/2014 20:00

For reading I'd get the most basic and a non tablet version.

I have the basic kindle for reading and love it.

I won a kindle fire but no way would I use it for reading - the screen has a flare to start with, nothing like a proper kindle screen. So can't be used in bright lights and outside.

I didn't like the kindle fire at all full stop though - it sits unused most of the time.

For a tablet we have iPads and I purchased iPads for my school too.

Huffpot · 12/10/2014 20:39

If you just search argos outlet in the search bar in Ebay it will come up FloatingPorpoise

QueenAnneofAustriaSpain · 12/10/2014 20:40

I use my kindle fire outside and in bright light. I just increase the brightness.

However, I do agree that if it's an e-reader then a different kindle is better, I would have preferred the paper white but it was a gift.

As far as tablets go I feel that my kindle pales in comparison to our iPad but for a child it may well be more than enough.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 12/10/2014 20:43

I have a kindle fire n husband has kindle fire HD ds age 4 plays on both.

Both were brought second hand mine last yr for £40 with case and is 8gb
Husband last mth and is 16 gb HD came boxed had been won in a comp n used once and was £75.

Loads on ebay with box and for a child I would consider second hand and have been looking for my ds.

Hulababy · 12/10/2014 20:46

We couldn't use the kindle fire outside on holiday at all - couldn't see the screen for the glare. Fun made the screen unreadable entirely. To be fair all the tablets are the same ime.

Hence why for reading I would always recommend a proper e reader instead.

inchoccyheaven · 12/10/2014 21:35

We have samsung tab 3 8 inch and all get on with them well.

wherehavealltheflowersgone · 12/10/2014 22:05

Has anyone got one of the £30 tablets? There's a couple on amazon with mixed reviews ... Ds really wants one for playing minecraft / other games

daddykyller · 12/10/2014 22:38

You can get the hudle 2 with clubard points- and with the clubcard boost it means you only need about £65 worth of points - or mix and match with cash if you don't have that many points saved up. I read it on this blog post and it's worth checking out, as if you have a clubcard it makes for a cracking deal.

Oldraver · 12/10/2014 22:42

I'm also looking for a tablet and I havn't got a clue. Same as Wherehave we want it for DS to play Minecraft (he has only played it at a friends, cant download it on my laptop and is obssesed) and other games type stuff.

Harrin · 12/10/2014 23:33

Now the Hudl2 is out the original is only about £80
