Christmassy Things To Do At Work?

mamapain · 30/09/2014 18:56

This year I'm responsible for coordinating christmas at the office.

We will do a half day on Christmas Eve and then be closed until 5th January.

There will be Secret Santa, christmas decorations, a christmas party at another venue.

I was trying to think of other things we could do. Any ideas? Maybe we could have a work advent and do something each day but its hard to pick what to do.

Oh, this sounds great. You could do a best Christmas jumper day with a prize Grin

Has to be a DIY effort (battery led lights etc)

While at Uni we had secret santa sock presents and the socks had to represent everyone's personality. Mr grumpy etc

Christmas karaoke competition
... Getting carried away now!

I am SO JEALOUS!

Aaah.

It's an effort, but maybe ask everyone to bring in photos of their younger selves taken at Xmas, and make an advent calendar out of them, and then everyone has to guess who is the 1st of Dec, who is the 2nd Dec, who is the 3rd etc.

I quite like the idea of the photos, am not sure if it will work as we're quite small and lots of very obvious people iyswim. Even just racially it will be obvious who is who. I will try and think of a way to make it work.

We're going to have a Hot Chocolate Bar Day

Yes, Yes, YES to a christmas jumper day.

I think I need rethinks that can happen at the same time as work, so things that are maybe not too disruptive.

I'm also going to be putting a christmassy quote on our entrance wall every day

Make a Loo Roll Advent calendar (lots of loo roll inners covered in wrapping paper and stacked like a christmas tree - holes all facing out) and hung on the wall. Numbered (might just want to number the work days) with a little something wrapped inside each one to be popped open on that day.

We did a "mince off" - bought mince pies for the team every Fri, heated them & topped with microwaveable custard, & marked each brand out of 10 for appearance, taste etc. winners were the last lot - homemade by one of the team (thank god - he'd steeped the mincemeat for 3 weeks & would have been disappointed if he'd lost!)

Used to do Christmas decorations competition between departments (but they got a bit out of hand - whole offices done up like Santa's grotto with ankle deep polystyrene balls from packaging/postal dept!)

What about a Christmas Quiz ome afternoon? The last one I did I had ten christmas traditions or facts from countries around the world, then at the bottom of the page listed twenty countries (so some red herrings) and people had to match the tradition to the country.

mamapain · 30/09/2014 19:32

Littlewoolly I want to work where you do! It;s quite hard because I don't want things that put pressure on people but I would like something we can all easily join in with.

Last Friday before we all wear Xmas headgear for the day hats, boppers, halos etc and go out for lunch of course

mamapain · 30/09/2014 19:40

Right we're definitely doing a christmas quiz

Another round for the Christmas Quiz is you could list the Christmas Number One Singles of the last 25 years and have them put them in date order.

I work in a hospital so limited as to what we can do beyond a few tasteful decorations. One year on Christmas Eve I set up a (unused) computer on the NORAD website. They have the Santa radar that follows his progress around the world, and kept me entertained between the 3 patients (who wants to come for tests on Christmas Eve anyway?) I had all day finding out where he was at any given time. I may also have eaten a vast quantity of mince pies too...

mamapain · 30/09/2014 19:53

Perhaps each friday in december we will do a christmas quiz.

I could do Christmas Music, Christmas Traditions/History and something else, maybe Christmas Around The World?

Does anyone's work do anything for charity at christmas?

OP posts:
superslim · 01/10/2014 19:35

We don't do individual christmas cards to staff at work but all put the money we would have spent towards a charity. No pressure on amounts as everyone just writes a christmas message on the notice board and donates anoymously!

Mrsgrumble · 01/10/2014 19:40

Rather than guess the young photo you could do guess who owns this Christmas tree (staff to photograph their tree at home)

Pin the tail on rudolf ? Ha ha
