DS is 7 and I was thinking about giving him a Scalextric for Christmas. Unfortunately until I started looking I had no idea there were so many different types! Can any of you experienced MNers point me in the right direction?

The demolition one is good, they go into loads of pieces when they smash.
It's slowly moving over to digital but digital is much more expensive. It has the benefit of 4 cars on a 2 lane track rather than having to have 4 lanes (if that makes sense!), as well as better controllers and lap timers. I've found scalextric is definitely worth it over the cheaper ones.
We have the analogue which is great as you can easily get second hand cars and track to add to it.

ooh watching with interest as I'm also try thinking of scalectrix for my boy. Top tip I've had so far is to avoid the mini cars as they go too fast and are hard for younger children to control.

We have james bond one and then added to it with trillion other pieces as exh got carried away lol. You just need to have the space to have it out on regulr basis but it is good fun.
