Trying to find stuff about this virus online but can't see much!
Is it not a big threat do you not think?

SpottyTeacakes · 27/09/2014 07:50

I'm ordering online today too

Elvish · 27/09/2014 07:53

If your details like credit card are already saved on Amazon then there is the same level of risk whether you order or not.

This "weekness" has been about for 20 years, but now someone has spotted it I suppose an attack is more likely. But the attack will be on the servers that the internet company use to boast the website not on your PC.

So maybe don't add your credit card etc to a new site, but if your details are already on a site you're at risk anyway.

Use a credit card not debit online and always check your statements - do this anyway whether or not there is a scam about as you may have had your card cloned in a petrol staton and someone could be using it anywhere!

Elvish · 27/09/2014 07:54

*host not boast!

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/09/2014 07:55

I don't have a credit card

Stuff like this worries me!

TeWiSavesTheDay · 27/09/2014 08:26

Techy people I know said it was a 10min patch to fix and would have been done by big sites immediately.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/09/2014 08:27

That's reassuring!

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/09/2014 08:29

Ok loom band sets ordered

MsAspreyDiamonds · 27/09/2014 08:40

This is a winter heating deal rather than a christmas specific one.

walkingwolf the ELC Big City garage was half-price in their half-term deal week last year so if they do the same again it will be £30 this year. Last year Sainsburys were stocking wooden garages for £11.99 in the lead-up to Christmas. I got one for my nephew and it was good quality.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/09/2014 09:29

Anyone seen any good deals on the marvel mashers?

Or have a debenhams code?

Elvish · 27/09/2014 09:44

3pigs, it might be worth getting a credit card just for online shopping. I have mine set so I pay off the full balance by dd every month so I don't pay interest or run up a stupid bill, but I do get the security of the card.

I worry about using my debit card because if it was hacked I could be left without any money to pay the bills. But if someone puts fraudulent transactions on my credit card I can dispute it with the card company and not pay it until it's sorted.

I have awful credit so don't think I could get a credit card

IAlreadyToldYou · 27/09/2014 09:52

I know it's been posted before but some posters may have missed it. Loom bands and loom band charms from Asia have been tested and have been carrying a dangerous level of carcinogenics. It's quite worrying tbh, the report says it can get into the body through the skin when worn, especially if the wearer is sweating and also if anything is put in the mouth. Apparently you wouldn't know until the wearer has children and they have defects Sad. Sorry, not trying to scaremonger but wanted people to be aware. I've put all mine in the bin.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/09/2014 09:58

Oh no!

Are these just ones from like aliexpress? They won't be on Amazon will they?

IAlreadyToldYou · 27/09/2014 10:03

Yes, anywhere. I bought mine from amazon. Also said to be wary of buying them from market stalls etc as they may have been bought from Asia. I will try and find an article and link.

o0 · 27/09/2014 10:03

lAlreadyToldYou, I've thrown mine out too.

Smyths have loom bands half price atm. Not the bargainous price of the stuff from China but at least I know they are safe. I got a massive set of 10,000 for £9.99. It comes in a great plastic 3 tier box with separate compartments for each colour.

There were loads of different sets and prices.

iloveholidays · 27/09/2014 10:06

I thought it was the charms rather than the loom bands themselves. maybe I'll put all ours in the bin then, they're annoying me anyway.

IAlreadyToldYou · 27/09/2014 10:09

telegraph article regarding loom bands The other article I read said to bear in mind that a ce mark on an Asian toy may not mean that it's actually been tested to meet British safety standards, or indeed any standards at all.

IAlreadyToldYou · 27/09/2014 10:12

The other article I read said both the xharms and the bands themselves. The telegraph article is mainly about the charms but also mentions the bands so I've binned them all to be on the safe side. Claire's have their official loom bands reduced at the moment too.

Pocketfullofsmiles · 27/09/2014 10:17

Not sure if it's been mentioned but clintons have Yankee candles for 25% off, including Christmas ones! Long time lurker on the thread thought I'd take the opportunity to add to it! Grin

TeWiSavesTheDay · 27/09/2014 10:37

I didn't realize it was the band's as well, I found one in my baby's nappy!! I have only bought from actual shops but I don't know who supplied them obviously. Confused

Don't know if this is any good for anyone but have just ordered one of these for a present for my SIL who is obsessed with harry potter. I've seen one in the flesh as well and can vouch for the quality!
