When do your dc make there's?

DD keeps seeing adverts and asking if she can put it on her Santa list Hmm. She is 3 so won't write a list as such. Just a letter to santa asking for a shop (that I've already bought). DH'S family always ask us to provide a list and we usually have them ready for early November.

PesoPenguin · 21/09/2014 08:12

Ds's has already gone to Santa!

Nerf · 21/09/2014 08:13

All through the year! Anytime they ask for something I tell then to add it to their list. Then they pare it down each December but at least it's stuff they want.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 21/09/2014 08:21

So it's not crazy to get them to write it in September lol?

dementedma · 21/09/2014 08:59

I get the main lists about now of the things which aren't going to change, and then add bits as I go along. Ds helpfully emails me his list with hyperlinks to all relevant websites and a priority coding to indicate level of desire! He's 12

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 21/09/2014 09:12

I might get them to sit with the argos later then

fuzzpig · 21/09/2014 09:24

My DCs (7/5) have never written them! Blush

Although they may have at school I guess.

DCs are lego obsessed and they know they will both get some at Xmas, and I know DD would love another monster high doll, other than that it will be surprises.

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 21/09/2014 09:27

We did them last year I just can't remember when!

Rules being Santa doesn't bring anything that is alive, and he only brings 3 presents off each list

They tell me year round. I buy things I think they will like and if we see them in a shop say how cool they look so the DCs put them on their lists Blush

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 21/09/2014 09:30

I've already bought the big obvious gift as it's guaranteed to appear on both ds1&2s lists

One asked the other day for a web shooter which I'm not keen on though so hopefully can get round that with my 3 presents rule!

Usually October time but sometimes a little later. I start shopping before then for others so can concentrate on DS.

I think it depends if you buy for your children throughout the year or only on Christmas and birthdays. Those that tend to stick to the two occasions are very likely to start lists earlier.

EustaciaVye · 21/09/2014 09:51

in the summer holidays when the argos catalogue comes out Grin

JerseySpud · 21/09/2014 10:03

Mine do it about October time so it gives me another couple of months to get everything

PesoPenguin · 21/09/2014 10:31

Well I wouldn't say it's not crazy... But a little craziness is good when it comes to christmas!

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 21/09/2014 10:39

Mine don't actually sit down and make lists. But they do tell me here and there. And my 5yo pretty much wants everything he sees on television or in the shop, so I'd have to have a lot of paper for his list! Grin Although, it'd be good handwriting practice.....

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/09/2014 10:56

Mine used to sit with the Argos catalogue (one each) and a pen.
DD used to 'helpfully' write on the cover "DD would like these on page 271, 273, 458,1082...." marked with a *

The adverts on Childrens TV show these toys looking brilliant , fun, excited children, and sneakily, alot of CGI and animation.
Parents know they are really tat IRL and after 30 minutes they'll be discarded or you'll want to remove the batteries Hmm

TheOnlyPink · 21/09/2014 11:14

I get mine to do it as soon as the smyths catalogue is delivered, usually around the first week of October. The elves need time to make the toys you see.

We only buy on Christmas and birthdays, so I always have a fair idea of what they (well ds 1, ds 2 will only be 3 in Dec), are after. Ds 1 had wanted the same things since last Christmas!

lunar1 · 21/09/2014 11:58

The smyths catalogue arrived yesterday so ds1 did his yesterday and today he is helping ds2 with his.

I think ds1 has written out the entire list of lego they have in thereShock

MrsBungle · 21/09/2014 12:08

I walked into the dining room last week to find dd had just written hers. No idea why she thought to do it. Her list is as follows (inc spelling she is 5)
I pad
Goldin wotch (golden watch) Shock
A pet dog
A toy dog
Sweetees (sweeties)
Toys

noideawottoget · 21/09/2014 12:14

no real thought as to when. they are allowed up to 5 items on the list so father christmas doesnt see them as greedy. He may bring 2 or 3 of the items depending on what they are. rules are nothing alive, no big electricals. otherwise they have pretty free reign. i know the girls want bikes this year so that will be on the list. i do try to guide them when writing the lists, hopefully pointing out things they have asked for at various points which i may or may not have already bought Wink

spottymoo · 21/09/2014 16:12

Mine are 11&12 and lists are done September and have to be finished by the beginning of October as we like to get the main bulk of all the presents done by the end of October so we can sort each other (me & dp) food and decoration and trips etc November.

misstiredbuthappy · 21/09/2014 16:45

Dd circles thing's everything she would like santa to get her in the argos cataloge.

Ive got apps on my tablet for argos and amazon with a wishlist of things to get dd every so often I compare the prices if a certain toy then go for whos selling it the cheapest, ive saved a fair bit so far.

misstiredbuthappy · 21/09/2014 16:45

God I need a life Blush I like lists Blush

fuzzpig · 21/09/2014 16:51

Me too misstired I have loads of them on amazon, all different categories!

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 21/09/2014 17:02

This year we plan to get DC's stuff at the end of October when DP's pay rise comes into affect and there's a lump sum to spend so want DD and DS to have decided for sure what they want from Santa and us. Anything we don't buy will be mentioned to other people if they ask (they usually do).
