Do we have a Christmas 2014 decluttering thread yet?

I wasn't sure if this should go in Good Housekeeping but I know people get twitchy enraged at the mention of Christmas in non designated topics! Wink

Anyway, it's only 3 months away and my house needs a decluttering and sorting, would anyone want to join me in doing a small space at a time?

I'm a list maker, I'm planning on splitting my house into zones and doing one at a time and sorting into keep and lose piles and dealing with them there and then rather than sorting into new piles and leaving them to gather into more clutter.

Hello, would anyone mind if I joined please? Have a 5wk old and a 2.5 yr old and my house is a disorganised mess! Really feel better when things are clear and in place but struggling to get a grip on it. Have a list as long as my arm of things to do and need a bit of help and motivation if that's ok?

Pollywallywinkles · 26/10/2014 08:00

That is a useful link fulltimer

iloveholidays · 26/10/2014 08:44

Ah ShowMe congratulations on your 5 week old!!! This is the time you have a huge excuse to be disorganised!! Grin

I need to join this!

I also need a lift to Ikea?

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 26/10/2014 09:31

Thanks ilove Smile finding it hard not being organised so need to slowly get back on track.
Anyone with any tips to stop the toddler undoing it all behind me (I've considered locking in room already Grin) greatly appreciated.

Socks on hands

ShowMeShowMeTheWine · 26/10/2014 09:53

Grin Love it! I could tie her mittens on couldn't i?!

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 26/10/2014 16:28

You could although I think socks would reduce movement more

Blondieminx · 26/10/2014 20:28

ShowMe jump on in, we're all in the same boat of wanting to clear out our homes in time for Christmas and the next influx of plastic tat

iLove thanks, I was very pleased!

I think I need to do the socks-on-toddler's-hands thing. DS is not being very supportive in my efforts to tidy things.

Spent most of the weekend sorting out our best friend's birthday present. He was 40 yesterday so we've put together a box of 40 things for him to unwrap. Each item relates to either the year or his age (so he's got a little car for the year he was 17 and learned to drive). Took AGES to sort but a lot of the "joke" gifts have been things we already had in the house so they've been decluttered to his house.

Other than that things have slowed down a bit as DS hasn't been sleeping well so I've been shattered. Need to get back on track. Think I'll have a go at the bathroom today if I can get DS to nap...

3pigs I want to go to IKEA too! Where is your nearest one?

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/10/2014 11:33

My nearest ikea is Manchester and I went this morning!

Older dc bedroom almost fully decluttetrd just need to do books and wardrobe

LetThereBeCupcakes · 27/10/2014 11:39

You've been to IKEA already? Did you not stay for lunch? Aren't IKEA meatballs the best thing about IKEA?

3pigsinblanketsandasausagerole · 27/10/2014 12:05

Nah too Many kids in tow and feeling far too productive

ipswichwitch · 27/10/2014 12:33

I like the truffle cake thing for 90p they do in ikea :)
Since I last posted I've sorted
the study - binned loads of old paperwork and de-cluttered

DS1's room - just needed clothes sorting and a new rail in the wardrobe.

the kitchen - cleaned the drawers and rearranged so thing actually fit, rather than being slung in so the drawer won't shut!

The garage - that wasn't intentional! DH has been doing the garden and decided to put a black bin bag of soil in the garage. It split open as I walked past it Hmm, so I cleaned up and got carried away throwing stuff out!

And I had a go at the cupboard of toys and spiders. I gave up after the 3rd spider incident (it landed on my head which was a step too far for me!)

Just our bedroom and the big loft cupboard to go, yay!

I'm rather smug as I've had a bit of a clear out this weekend.

All of the children's old clothes have been taken to the charity for recycling.

All of their unopened toys from Xmas 2013 have been packed away, ready for storage.

The final job is to pack away their current toys ready for Xmas 2014.

mabelbabel · 27/10/2014 13:30

Big clearout here yesterday. I threw out 4 carrier bags of general stuff from my bedroom! Plus another bag is ready for the charity shop, and I removed all the too-small or never-worn clothes from DD2's room and bagged and labelled them for handing down to relatives.
I have a few shoeboxes of my old letters/diaries etc, from age about 14 to about 19. I sort of feel like I should chuck them, but can't quite do it and I'm not sure why? Should I, or shouldn't I??

LetThereBeCupcakes · 04/11/2014 07:41

Hi Kelly! DS is a January baby so we have a massive influx of STUFF in a very short space of time too.

DH's large pile of paperwork to deal with was attacked by DS on Sunday. Thought it might prompt DH to actually deal with some of it, but it seems he felt it was a better idea to shove it all in his wardrobe and panic about it when his tax return is due later.

I am Envy of guitar

LetThereBeCupcakes · 04/11/2014 07:42

What happened there? Thought I saw a post from Kelly directly before mine! Sorry Confused
