What are your 6 year old boys getting?

DS is 6 in March but looking for christmas ideas that will last a while.

He's asked for a Nintendo DS. I think I'm going to get him an older preowned one as I can't justify £100 on one he might not look after very well.

I need to find a few games for him for it and some filler bits. DD (4) is getting a camera and a gardening kit (if I can find a reasonably priced wheelbarrow) and I don't want it to seem that she got loads more than him.

I forgot Minecraft stuff. How could I forget? He eats, breathes and sleeps chuffing Minecraft!

He has the game and books but I've bought some toys this year.

ShesAStar · 13/09/2014 18:51

DS will be 6.5 in December and has asked (begged) for the Playmobile Castle. I made the mistake of showing him both the Playmobile Castles and of course he has pleaded for the biggest one. If I hadn't shown him he wouldn't have known there was a big and smaller one!

He will also get another set of Geomags because one set just isn't enough to make more than one thing at a time. I will probably get some Playmobile Knights and Soldiers etc. to go with the Castle. He will get the map book from a few threads ago and the This Is London book too. He also wants the Lion King and Tarzan DVDs and he has the Lego storage head.

So far I have not started the stocking.

Sleepswithbutterflies · 13/09/2014 18:54

Ds's list (5.3)

Catan junior
Battle of Hoth Lego game
Star Wars command sets
Volcano chase game
Some books
Stilts
Bug barn
Sprudels
Soft toy
Sand art
Pick n mix mini stand
Wooden castle blocks (probably too young really but think he will enjoy them)

That's it -he's got too much already!

monkeyfacegrace · 13/09/2014 18:58

Ds's (6) main prezzie is a motocross bike, set of protective clothing and a helmet.

I think my pressie from DH may have to be the sodding trailer to tow it to the woods Hmm

Other things will be a scooter and helmet, haribo bucket, circus stuff like diabolo and plate spinning etc, horse riding lessons and lego.

I have no flipping idea for DD (8) though.

Sleepswithbutterflies · 13/09/2014 19:00

Oh and possibly snap circuits jr.

Sleepswithbutterflies · 13/09/2014 19:03

I've just added that lot up and it comes to £180! That's without the snap circuits and without stocking presents.
I'm aiming to come in at less than £200 this year so may abandon snap circuits or see if mil will get them for him.

I am cutting back in general, he had so much last year and played with and used perhaps a quarter of it. I'm only buying stuff that will get used up or absolutely definitely played with. If he asks for things I know he won't use (like he did last year) this year I'm not getting them. He no longer believes in Santa anyway.

ShesAStar · 13/09/2014 19:06

Sleepswithbutterflies - thanks for the wooden castle blocks - what a fantastic idea, both my DS and DD will love them and use them for years (probably).

PesoPenguin · 13/09/2014 19:09

Ds is 5 but in year 1. He is getting a trials motorbike and helmet, boots, gloves, clothing etc. He's been told that that is 'all' Santa will bring as it's a fortune and tbh I don't want to buy (and he doesn't need) anymore toys!

accessorizequeen · 13/09/2014 19:24

My ds is 6 in a fortnight. He's getting a Maxi scooter, moon in my room, Where's wally books and then I ran out of ideas! We have piles of Lego with two older boys, plus Playmobil (and castle is absolutely the best thing!). So great ideas although I am avoiding buying too many toys with 4 dc and a houseful already.

Badvoc123 · 13/09/2014 19:25

My Ds got those castle blocks last year and they are great

almamatters · 13/09/2014 19:41

Ooh can anyone point me in the direction of the this is London and map books please? I'm intrigued but I can't traipse through 6000 post to find them! Grin

Mine is currently being brainwashed by adverts and has requested the dreaded doggie doo and gooey louie! Why?!

It was £6.40 then so maybe keep an eye on it to see if it comes down. It's really lovely. I'm 33 and sat for ages looking at all the pages. Blush

DS turned six during the school holidays and I have very little inspiration for Christmas, feels like I just used up all the good ideas for his birthday!

He lurves his Star Wars Lego so maybe another set of that --to join the fleet he has already--
I've got one of those Anakin to Darth Vader action figure thingys doll put aside --that I forgot to give him last year--
Maybe I should get him a copy of the actual Star Wars movie since he's not actually ever seen it!!!
Just 2 mins ago purchased a large chest of K'nex (70 model kit for £30 delivered on ebay, new)
Nerf set
Set of Mr Gumm books
Connect 4 & Guess Who
Map book and will find a not too pricey globe to go with it

Hopefully just a couple more things to round it all out, I think Minecraft is coming out for the xbox one soon so I think that would be a popular choice.

ShesAStar · 13/09/2014 20:25

Accessorizequeen - love the Moon in my Room. I think I'll end up buying that.

Sleepswithbutterflies - I'm going to buy the ones on your first link. I think they look nicer - the others look a bit short.

Rosvita · 13/09/2014 20:53

For Ds so far:
Pj's and slippers
Couple of DVDs
Couple of board games
Flick trix/finger whips/tech deck stuff
Lego sticker book
Practical joke kit

Possibles left to get:
Diabolo
More bmx kit - helmet, gloves etc
Minecraft & wwe 2k15 on Xbox one

MerryMarigold · 13/09/2014 21:50

I got both ds's tons of Transformers last year - PJ's, rucksack, socks, the toys, books. Didn't play with the toys for more than a week and not into them any more. I am avoiding something similar this year.

Badvoc123 · 14/09/2014 01:03

It's the Melissa and doug one

5toocoolforschool · 14/09/2014 01:36

my oldest 2 will be 6.10 and 5.8 at christmas, they will be getting

playmobil

lego

jigsaws,board games,craft stuff etc

possibly some kind of tablet,i haven’t made my mind up yet as we are on and off with games, they love them and id like them to go on them but they are terrible and get obsessed quickly.

VashtaNerada · 14/09/2014 05:54

Just remembered something else I considered for DD - a subscription to the Beano.

Sleepswithbutterflies · 14/09/2014 08:57

I was looking at the Melissa and doug ones. I think I will get those. Thanks!

countingdown · 14/09/2014 12:39
