Board games?

Anyone have an suggestions for really good, family board games for age 7 upwards?

I know about Orchard Toys games, but looking for something a little more grown up. And I know about Lego games, but I want something a little more traditional board-cards-counters etc

I saw a lovely looking board game called Gathering A Garden, or something similar - I want something that looks lovely like that, but possibly a little bit more complicated.

Anyone have any good ideas? We have old favourites like ludo and snakes and ladders, lots of memory games and lotto and things like that. Looking for something a bit different.

I did think of the Game of Life, but haven't played it for years, maybe too complicated for a 7 year old.

MNHQ Update
We appreciate this thread is a little old now, but if you’ve come across it while on the hunt for similar recommendations, our guide to the best board games has been recently updated to reflect current availability and new releases. It’s been compiled based on advice from Mumsnet users as well as consumer reviews with fun for the whole family in mind. We hope it’s helpful! Flowers

Might be worth a look through that website too for others.
