Usually 25th sept :)

AsYouWish · 03/09/2014 22:48

Definitely 25th Sept. I know because it's also my birthday Grin

FreeButtonBee · 04/09/2014 16:11

Oh hooray. I might actually be able to participate this year as am not heavily pregnant with twins (2012) and not in the middle of building work nor having a sick baby (2013). I now have a lovely living room, an operational kitchen and there will be no illness

I am soo looking forward to it. Might even be hosting my whole family this year for the first time - eek!

It is defo 25 September - which is perfect as that is when I get back from my holidays.

KnackeredMuchly · 04/09/2014 16:24

What are you all on about?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/09/2014 18:33

Come back on the 25th and , in the words of Bart Simpson "Prepare to be dazzled" Wink

TheImprobableGirl · 04/09/2014 19:37

Come on 70 it's more than dazzling.... It's... Its..... PONCETASTIC

HopeAndStories · 04/09/2014 20:39

Ahhh I'm so excited for this, as always Grin

AtlanticDrift · 04/09/2014 20:41

Last year fell by the wayside a bit compared to other years. We really have to be much more spectacularly poncetastic

LokiBear · 04/09/2014 21:18

Link to a previous thread? I have no idea what you are on about either x

LBOCS · 04/09/2014 21:20

It's an extravaganza of grosgrain ribbon, artisanal cinnamon decorations and homemade wreaths stolen holly optional. You will be amazed.

HerrenaHarridan · 04/09/2014 21:32

Hear hear.

Last years was rubbish and I was so excited about it.

Here's to a poncetastic Christmas 2015

I have grand plans, including a jar of home made cranberry and Rioja sauce from last year that I've been saving :)

LBOCS · 04/09/2014 21:38

I'm waiting for the bowls of chillies at the local market to go on sale, so I can make Nigella's chilli jam. My eBay watch list is full of things like multipacks of jam jars and rustic looking twine. We're hosting this year, I'm very excited.

I also have plans for a holly wreath with faded pink hydrangea heads and gold ribbon on it. I need to go hydrangea-scrumping in my neighbour's garden.

AtlanticDrift · 04/09/2014 22:37

Pomegranates! You must have dried pomegranates, they would look amazing with hydrangea and holly. Im sure I saw one like that on darling Cherry menloves blog a while back and you cant get much more poncetastic than that

AtlanticDrift · 04/09/2014 22:39

Rioja sauce sounds amazing. Please share the recipe?

For anyone that doesnt know poncetastic evolved a few christmases ago from people talking about all the poncey things we do for christmas.

MollyBdenum · 04/09/2014 22:45

I'm having an extension ( with new kitchen) built so my house will probably be a dusty hellhole in the run up to Christmas, which will probably prevent me from poncing.

AtlanticDrift · 04/09/2014 22:54

You might squeeze a little bit in?

LBOCS · 05/09/2014 11:40

I'm not sure that I can get dried pomegranates from my neighbour's garden, Atlantic...

FreeButtonBee · 05/09/2014 12:06

I am defo doing christmas pudding vodka this year. Still have blackberry whiskey from 4 years ago which should be nicely matured.

I need to do a Christmas cake - have gone nigella the past few years as DH loved it - it's her chocolate christmas cake - which is heavy with prunes and fruit and has a bit of smokiness from the darkest richest cocoa I can find.

I also did cinnamon croissant rolls for breakfast which were immense. Sooooo good and actually not that difficult. Will make a massive batch of cinnamon dough and freeze in portions as that is the difficult bit. The rest is v easy. Recipe here - theboywhobakes.co.uk/2012/05/cinnamon-rolls/

Also did Christmas rocky roads - nigella again.

I did goose last year but if I have family for dinner, I may need to go turkey in order to get enough meat. I still have goose fat from last year though in the fridge! Yummy roast potatoes.

I have some tomatoes that are refusing to ripen so I will definitely be doing some green tomato chutney for cheese and cold meat.

In terms fo decorating ponce, I need at least an 8 foot tree - I refuse to have anything other than a real one (will see how that goes with almost 2 year old twins!). May also need some new decoations. Yay!!!

Heels99 · 05/09/2014 12:12

I am not doing hyacinths and paper narcissi this year but for those who are it is nearly hyacinth planting time

waithorse · 05/09/2014 17:40

LadySusanVernon · 07/09/2014 21:39

I am going to do hyacinths and narcissi this year I am so excited!

Last year was a total bust because we all got a D and V bug over Christmas, so I have two years' worth of Christmas excitement building up. And my DS will be 2.5 this Christmas, so he will understand more and be able to take part in more stuff!!

I am really looking forward to the poncetastic thread too. This year my new poncey things are going to be homemade mandarin curd (with gold stars sprinkled in), pear and vanilla butter, festive hanging baskets with twinkly lights in, Christmas cards made with the toddler and an arseload of glitter (the faux naif look) and I totally plan to knit DS a scarf that looks like a dragon.

The only problem is I can't think of anything to get DH, so have to really put some thought into it. In the last several years we've agreed in advance to be really frugal, and actually it was a bit miserable, so this year I'm going to spend more than £10 on him...

AuntieStella · 07/09/2014 21:43

I have tried hyacinths year after year, and no matter what I do the sodding things don't flower until mid-Jan.

But still, this thread's reminded me that it's time to try again. Hope triumphs over experience!

Heels99 · 08/09/2014 12:13

What do you eat mandarin curd and pear butter with?

coraltoes · 11/09/2014 21:32

Those cinammon rolls look tremendous, will try them out this weekend- thank you!!

misstiredbuthappy · 11/09/2014 22:07
